Pickpick

I enjoyed this romance novel but I have to acknowledge a few things upfront. First, it is SO predictable. Every aspect of it. And Emily is oblivious AF - to an unrealistic, almost obnoxious degree. But her faults & insecurities are more than realistic; they‘re familiar. I, along with many readers, I‘m sure, have been there before. I‘ve felt like I wasn‘t good enough. So Emily, former English major Emily, was impossible *not* to root for.👇🏻

monalyisha 1/2: Her initial skepticism of the Ren Faire scene (“Oh god. Was I going to have to yell “huzzah”?) is important, too, to snag readers who might also be feeling reticent about the whole scene. And Simon, English teacher (& summertime Ren Faire pirate, mourning the loss of his charismatic older brother), was just as easy to fall in love with. Except for the silver hoop earring. I could have done without that. 4y
monalyisha 2/2: Though it‘s not the best romance I‘ve ever read, & the side characters needed more development, I‘d still recommend it. By the end, I was crying freely — not just because of the happy romance but because of the equally important message about self-love, standing up for yourself, & having the courage to change *as well* as put down roots. (Plus, there are some sexy, equal-opportunity oral sex scenes that shouldn‘t be overlooked 😆🤷‍♀️). (edited) 4y
Bookgoil I just felt I liked this one for a fun read in general lol 😂 I need to grab the sequel 4y

Cinfhen I LOVE this review 🥰 4y
monalyisha @BookGoil OooOoOo. I hope we get to read lots of adorable, flirty emails (like in Rainbow Rowell‘s Attachments)! I love me some of that epistolary format! 4y
monalyisha Thanks, @Cinfhen 😉! 4y
Cinfhen #KeepItReal 💜🙌🏻 4y
Bookgoil @monalyisha that would be super cute I loved Attachments so much! 4y
monalyisha @Bookgoil ME. TOO. Another title with a similar vibe, which I also loved, is 4y
Bookgoil @monalyisha I‘ll check it out! 4y
TheAromaofBooks I really enjoyed this one, and actually thought the sequel was even more enjoyable - the pacing felt better in the second book than it did in the debut. 4y
monalyisha @TheAromaofBooks Yeah! I‘m definitely going to read it. 4y

Soooo....I just spent a good amount of time decluttering my followers. I always just followed whoever followed me, BUT the amount of new followers who haven‘t posted anything still confuses and bothers me a bit. So my new policy is simple- you follow me and have posted something, I‘ll follow back. I guess I just don‘t see the point in joining a social network about books if you aren‘t going to be social and/or post about books. 🤷‍♀️ #keepitreal

Burghbookaddict I only follow people that I actually have interacted with now. It's too hard to find posts from people you actually talk to when you're following 1500 accounts, so.. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y
dariazeoli That‘s how I feel. I haven‘t been following back newbies until they post something and I will go back and unfollow inactive users of 3+ months. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
Purrfectpages @dariazeoli I wish I had the time to really sift through my list, but it‘s a huge undertaking. 6y

Purrfectpages @BurghBookAddict I know. I always follow back, but keeping up with everyone who posts even then is a challenge. 6y
JennyM That‘s exactly what I‘ve been doing. If there‘s no post, I don‘t follow back. 6y
Kaye I‘ve done the same. I went through the entire list which took days. If they haven‘t posted in months, or not at all, I‘m not following them. It‘s hard to keep track of daily posts of the ones I do follow. Note to new members : post once and you‘ll probably get more followers. Also, if you have your settings at Private, but you follow me, it‘s a little bit of an odd feeling. I can‘t SEE what or if you post. 6y
CarolynM That's been my approach too. I'm not convinced all the new followers are flesh and blood. 6y
Purrfectpages @Kaye yes! I just don‘t get the point of a private setting in an app like this. I give you a lot of credit for going through all the accounts. 6y
eanderson I‘ve been doing the same thing. I feel like I‘m not going to just follow everyone who follows me anymore. I check out each profile and if they haven‘t posted, I don‘t add them. 6y
Purrfectpages @CarolynM I know! I‘m suspicious too, although I can‘t seem to find what the motivation of dummy accounts would be? 6y
Ashley_Nicoletto Agreed! I always sort through my new followers and see if they are posting. If not, I‘m just not that interested. Also I block people for simply being rude. I have no space for that. 6y
Kaye @CarolynM Same . Lots with no photos, no info, just a screen name. I‘ve noticed some newer members are starting to post now so it‘s a bit better. 6y
Kaye @Ashley_Nicoletto I‘ve got a couple on mine blocked . None for direct conflict, but more for language. I can cuss like a sailor if I‘m mad, but I don‘t cuss in a book group. 6y
Ms_T I think these new followers are robots. I‘ve messaged @TimSpalding about it but haven‘t had a reply yet. 6y
Purrfectpages @Ms_T I saw that concern come up on Facebook, but it was dismissed. Do you think it‘s a user experiment created by Litsy creators themselves to make it look like there are more users or more like a virus, if that makes sense? 6y
erzascarletbookgasm @Kaye I‘m with you on the ‘Private‘ settings part. 6y
Purrfectpages @Kaye @Ashley_Nicoletto amazingly I haven‘t felt the need to block anyone on here. There was only one account I can think of a while back that would post really bizarre blitz like posts, but I haven‘t seen anything like that since. 6y
kspenmoll @kaye Agree with the “odd” feeling about private accounts. 6y
Purrfectpages @eanderson yes,it‘s much easier to go back and check if you don‘t follow someone like that right away, I find. 6y
Ms_T @Purrfectpages I think a virus is a real possibility... 6y
erzascarletbookgasm I try to follow back but I find it hard to keep in touch with everyone if the number of people I follow is too huge. It takes a great amount of time to scroll through everyone‘s posts and I don‘t want to miss out. The reason I‘m here is to connect with book people, I want to talk books, have fun, create connections and friendships. So, I don‘t know what to do actually 🤷‍♀️ 6y
Purrfectpages @erzascarletbookgasm I know. If I don‘t get the chance to scroll through for even a day I feel so behind. 😞 6y
Purrfectpages @Ms_T then I think it would adversely effect the app or its users eventually? 🤔 6y
Ms_T @Purrfectpages That‘s certainly a worry, and a huge one at that. 6y
Ashley_Nicoletto @Purrfectpages I had some guy that was trolling me for a little while. He kept posting sarcastic crap on my photos. He had to go. But he‘s the biggest one I can think of. 6y
kspenmoll OMG thanks for the tip- so many have not posted in ages. It will take days but feels good to de clutter!!! 6y
CoverToCoverGirl Well said.. I find all these new followers a little disturbing and worrisome. 6y
Purrfectpages @CouronneDhiver to discourage new followers you mean? 6y
LA_Mead It is a little strange... I wonder if it‘s because of that new “littens to follow” page... 6y
Bookladylinda That is something that I‘ve never understood. Why ask for followers if you aren‘t participating at all. 🤷🏾‍♀️🤔 6y
Bookladylinda @Kaye I don‘t understand the private account, we can never see what you post when you do that. 🤦🏾‍♀️ 6y
Bookladylinda @CouronneDhiver I didn‘t know there was a follow all button. 🤔 I‘m not new but I sometimes feel like there is so much I still don‘t know how to do. Although I don‘t think I would use a follow all button. 6y
merelybookish I'm so glad you posted this! I'm so baffled by the onslaught of new followers. It feels creepy somehow. I haven't even tried to follow back I also declutter who I follow occasionally. It's a good procrastination task. 😆 6y
Kaye I hesitate to comment much more on this subject since I was having a conversation just like this about a week ago, with someone we all know who has the same concerns. I‘m not sure how many of you saw the outcome of that conversation , because it was around midnight. Another person came in, was angry , disrespected me, told me we all have to follow the FB group to keep updated. Very rude. I deleted the entire post and was on the verge of leaving 6y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego @Litsy has a post explaining why we're getting so many new followers. They are not bots! They updated the 'follow suggested users' function & there is a follow all option. It's good thing for brand new Littens, hence why they have no posts yet. @Ms_T @CarolynM @Purrfectpages @CoverToCoverGirl @merelybookish 6y
Purrfectpages @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego yes, I‘m aware of the new feature. I just don‘t get why so many people seem to join now, blindly follow all, and then seem to vanish. 6y
TimSpalding For what it‘s worth, the pattern of joining, doing one thing—follow people, which the system puts first—and then leaving is not new or (from my experience with other sites) unusual. It‘s annoying though. 6y
CarolynM @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego @TimSpalding Thanks for that. I think I'll stick with my approach. @kaye some of the photos look a bit suspicious to me. 6y
Kaye Thanks for the tag @CarolynM 6y

The Rain Watcher: A Novel | Tatiana de Rosnay
post image
Bailedbailed

#ARC #NetGalley I LOVED Sarah‘s Key so I was super excited to receive an ARC of Tatiana De Rosnay‘s newest novel. 😭😭😭I tried, but at the half way mark I have no more patience for this slow moving, painfully boring, family drama about secrets and resentment. Ugh! I HATE bailing on an ARC but I need to #KeepItReal and move on #soManyBooksSoLittleTime

Lcsmcat I had a similar experience - loved Sarah‘s Key, but found The House I Loved to be lacking. 7y
Cinfhen I thought this one by her was pretty mediocre at best @Lcsmcat 7y
DebinHawaii That's too bad. I loved Sarah's Key but have not tried her other books based a bit on lackluster reviews like this. 7y

RebelReader I loved Sarah's Key and so did my sister and my book group, but everything since has been a meh for me so I won't waste my time (or $$) Thanks for taking one for the team! 😉 7y
emilyhaldi Bummer 👎🏻👎🏻 7y
Cinfhen Yeah @DebinHawaii @RebelReader @emilyhaldi she might be a #onehitwonder because the few other books I‘ve read since Sarah‘s Key have all been underwhelming 😪 7y
tpixie @Cinfhen so sad. Sarah‘s Key 🔑 still moves me just thinking of it!! 6y
Cinfhen This book was SOOOOO DISAPPOINTING @tpixie 6y
