Midnight Come Again | Dana Stabenow
Pickpick

Kate Shugak has disappeared from her home. Her family and friends are very concerned as this is not something Kate would do. Alaska State Trooper Jim Chopin is a friend and he is searching for her when he is sent to Bering to work undercover. He unexpectedly finds Kate there. There is Jim‘s undercover job and a huge mystery to solve. This is book ten in the series and a less emotional than number nine. A good story. 4/5⭐️

Dana Stabenow has written another mystery set in the Park in Alaska. PI Kate Shugak is on the job this time trying to assist State Trooper “Chopper Jim” solve a murder. The regular characters are nice people. Mutt the half wolf dog plays an important part in entire series. Winter is cold in Alaska, bringing the residents closer. How many will die before the killer is captured? 4⭐️

This installment had me laughing out loud for a good chunk of the story.
Kate finds herself working as a roustabout for an oil company in AK. As much as she‘s conflicted about the environmental issues, she can‘t walk away from the money offered to shut down a drug ring that‘s causing havoc and even death. After she arrives she also discovers artifacts are being stolen and sold for an exorbitant profit. She finds herself unexpectedly enjoying 🔻

robinb her time there…good food, new/mostly nice folks, a different locale. Also, on her time off she stays with Jack, her lover. But as she spends time in a city and finds herself being “spoiled” at the base camp, she begins to miss her isolated cabin, her alone time and her self-sufficiency. Even though this one was not as action-heavy as some prior outings, the humor and more focus on Kate‘s personality/thoughts were a welcome addition. Well done. 4.5 5mo

This is 3rd in the Kate Shugak Investigations series, and I think what I love most about this series so far (other than the spunky, tough-as-nails Kate) is the originality of the storylines/plots. This one finds Kate undercover working on an Alaskan fishing trawler in the Bering Sea attempting to discover what happened to two former crew members and investigating allegations of corruption and fraudulence of the team. Love the writing, love the 🔻

robinb cast of characters, love the native Alaskan heritage spotlighted and love the attention to detail/setting. Just a winner all around for me. 5/5⭐️ #DoubleBookSpin 9mo
TheAromaofBooks I was pretty ambivalent towards the first book, so I haven't read any more. But maybe I should give book 2 a try... 9mo
robinb @TheAromaofBooks Funny you should say that, but I remember the first one being a little ho-hum until she won me over. 😊 9mo

I read this as a result of enjoying the first in series from my LMPBC group, and I enjoyed it even more than the first one. It‘s very dark and shocking with a crime within a crime and 2 different perpetrators…always a neat concept.
Continue to like and be intrigued by Kate‘s character as I learn more about her heritage and the isolated Alaskan community around her. Definitely will continue with the series. 4.5/5⭐️

Jerdencon I‘m hoping to get to this one too. 12mo
bookandbedandtea I liked the first one enough to be interested in reading on so I'm glad to hear you think the next one is even better. 12mo
robinb @Jerdencon @bookandbedandtea I‘m really enjoying Kate‘s character more and more. And this one is really dark and has an interesting plotline. 12mo

A new author for me, this first in the Kate Shugak series, is centered around Kate, a native Aleut who works as a PI in Alaska. As an expert in her local Alaskan environs, she is asked to search for a park ranger who has been missing for 6 weeks and the FBI investigator who was sent to look for him.
I really enjoyed this book which is high on character development, a tight storyline, a suspense-filled plot, 🔻

robinb a surprise denouement and surprisingly, lots of humor. Kate is a force to be reckoned with…tough, resourceful and strong-willed. Along with her half-wolf, half-husky dog Mutt, there are a colorful array of community and law officials introduced and along for the ride as well. And I‘m happy to join the journey. 4.25/5 #LMPBC 13mo

Not the Ones Dead | Dana Stabenow

I have enjoyed this series. Kate Shugak is a good character. The plot in this novel brought Covid and the January 6th insurrection into play. I did miss the interactions with the aunties, as it was minimal. I do love reading about Alaska and will probably always will.

Soubhiville I don‘t think I‘ve read any fiction that mentions the insurrection. Interesting. 1y
