pickOf all Coates books (not graphic novels), this was my final read. And it‘s his first book. Now I want to go back, especially to his later memoir—Between the World and Me— and connect his childhood to the man (and writer) he‘s become. This is eye opening and heartfelt. It‘s a picture of an urban Black childhood in a nonconformist family.
