Murder at an English Sance | Jessica Ellicott

For the time being this is the last Beryl and Edwina murder mystery. Even though it was foreseeable at some points, it was a funny and twisted story. I am not sure if the series came to end with this one because the conclusion sounded a little bit like it and there aren‘t many citizen of Wolmsley Parva left to kill off. 😜😜😜

The secondlast murder mystery of the Beryl and Eswina series shows us more about their past at the Finishing school. They meet old acquaintances and of course somebody dies. 😜😂

This is fiction, but is based on/inspired by a true crime which culminated in the penultimate execution of a woman in Britain in the 1950s. It‘s told from the viewpoint of Zina and also her young Greek translator, Eva, and encompasses immigration, cultural translation and the treatment of women, particularly in the legal system, as well as the “whodunnit” element itself. The courtroom scenes are particularly sobering.

Cathythoughts Great review 👍🏻 I enjoyed this one. 2w
Tamra I still have this one TBR. 2w
squirrelbrain I loved this! She has a new one coming out in early May - doubtful if I‘ll get to it before then…. 🤦‍♀️ In fact, now you have a Kindle, have you thought about trying NetGalley? Free books, before they‘re published! ☺️🤪😲 2w

This is a historical crime novel based on an actual event…and it‘s so well written and intriguing!
Life isn‘t easy for Greek grandma Zina. Especially now that she‘s been accused of a crime in London where she does not speak the language. Enter Eva into Zina‘s life. It‘s the 1950s and translating for the accused was an afterthought. That age-old mother in law vs daughter in law relationship
Another #blameitonlitsy book, @TheKidUpstairs

TheKidUpstairs Glad you liked it! It was a total #BlameitonLitsy read for me, too. I think it was @squirrelbrain 's review that got me 😁 3mo
squirrelbrain It was such a great book wasn‘t it @TheKidUpstairs ? Glad you liked it too, Chelsea. I have an ARC of her new one - due out on 8th May in the UK. I want to get to it soon, but I have so many other ARCs that I‘m trying to read in pub order. 3mo
TheKidUpstairs @squirrelbrain ooh, that one sounds good too! It releases digitally here in May, and is a cheap pre-order, might just have to do that! Have you read her debit? 3mo
TheKidUpstairs @squirrelbrain that should, of course, say debut 🤦‍♀️ 3mo
squirrelbrain I knew what you meant! 🤪 @TheKidUpstairs And no, I must have assumed Unspeakable Acts was her debut so didn‘t know there was another. I *may* have just ordered a copy from Amazon. (Well, when you‘ve got a Xmas voucher burning a hole in your pocket..🤷‍♀️). 3mo

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!
