Finally a successful rise on a gluten free sandwich loaf! This is for my daughter; glad to have a homemade option. The available store brand has the tiniest slices for an exorbitant price.

My loaf is not white like the pic in the book and I realized it‘s my psyllium husk which is that brownish color. Not sure if all psyllium husk is that color?

My quibble with ATK is you MUST read all of the notes in order not to go astray.

merelybookish Congrats! It looks great. 🙂 4mo
mabell It looks really good! I‘m sure she‘ll love it! Homemade bread is so much better! I do agree about the notes and ATK 😆 4mo

I don‘t know why starting with a cake mix and adding all kinds of stuff to doctor it up seems so much easier than just making it from scratch, but there you go. Darned good GF choc cake + chocolate buttercream frosting for my daughter‘s birthday. Personally, I prefer this cake with peanut butter frosting, but that‘s me. It was VERY chocolatey.

I don‘t bake a lot of desserts, but this is my go- to for GF treats.

TheBookHippie Looks yummy! 5mo
Tamra 👏🏾🎉 Peanut butter frosting is in my wheelhouse, so I‘d prefer that too. (edited) 5mo

Aimeesue @Tamra Would‘ve been fabulouser with PB frosting! But one must defer to the wishes of the Birthday Person, however misguided. 4mo

GF Alert! Two bites into this coffee cake and my daughter said, “You definitely need to make this again.”

Glad to be finding alternatives that work!

Bookzombie Looks delicious! 12mo
Tamra @Bookzombie none of my family knew it was GF until I told them. 😊 12mo

Overall it was an okay read, but it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. This is not a guide on healthy eating as such but on avoiding fad diets, misleading headlines, & eating sensibly. Newcomers to the subject may find this a helpful 'beginner's read' or introduction to the subject of the Western view of food but it was written in 2015 so some of it will probably now be out of date. 2⭐

OutsmartYourShelf (Obviously there is a difference between those with a food allergy or something like Coeliac disease or Non-Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity, & people who just cut out certain food groups due to media headlines. If you have CD, NCGS, or food allergies, then it is vital to eat the right diet & avoid food triggers which the author states.)

We‘ve got new people at the library which obviously means that an afternoon tea is in order! The invite email asked for us to bring something vegan friendly - so I‘ve adapted my yum yum ball recipe - by using vegan/gluten free biscuits and condensed coconut milk instead of condensed milk. I didn‘t know condensed coconut milk was thing!

Darklunarose This is good stuff! It‘s a pantry staple here. 2y
ravenlee Ooh, sounds lovely! 2y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Darklunarose, what kind of recipes do you use it in? 2y
Darklunarose @thegirlwiththelibrarybag anything you would use condensed milk in:) but I‘m obsessed with it in iced coffee. 2y

Celiac Disease (Updated 4th Edition): A Hidden Epidemic | Peter H.R. Green, M.D., Rory Jones
Pickpick

This is the first book I bought after being diagnosed with celiac. This latest edition was updated in 2020. I found it helpful in understanding more about the disease & what to do now. Also lists a helpful index if gluten free food sources & info on whether ingredients are gluten free.

My 2nd trip to the library since restrictions eased & the library bookstore finally opened again. I went to pick up my hold on Second First Impressions & Little Secrets & 2 veg/vegan cookbooks East & Plants Only Kitchen came home with me.

From the bookstore $3 got me like-new Dead Wake & (the tagged & cleverly-titled) vegetarian/GF cookbook which looks amazing. I‘d say it‘s a pretty good #librarybookhaul & the book chickens were impressed!📚🐔🐔

Am I the only one turned off by typewriter font?

ImperfectCJ Nope, you are not alone in not feeling typewriter font. That's one I think can be used sparingly with good effect, but too much is...too much. 4y
Darklunarose Nope. I must admit o don‘t like that font at all. 4y

Love this cook book! Healthy mid week dinners are yummy! You can see my favourite recipes are saved. Although sometimes the quantities are a bit odd, and the editing needs checking - several mistakes. Which is a shame as some of these recipes are yum!

Powered_By_Plants Yay 🤩 I love her cookbooks , not sure if it‘s this one but she makes a veggie paella and a new potato and quinoa curry ... cook these all the time 😋 4y
Mrs_B @Powered_By_Plants yes that‘s this one! My favourite is the Middle Eastern inspired dish with the tamari roasted cauliflower. Mmmm 4y

Weekend breakfasts are the best ☺️. I read cookbooks like regular books but this 1 has been lingering on my TBR stack for a long time! I've been doing this long enough that I can modify pretty much any recipe so I guess this wasn't a priority. Yesterday I was rearranging my TBR cart & I plucked this one off and committed to reading it. I'm so glad I did, this Denver brunch break was delicious! Looking forward to trying more recipes from this 1!
