Second book in Apothecary Melchior series and it is even better than the first one! I think this is closer to Niklas Natt och Dag style of writing than the first book in the series and I totally understand that it definitely is not for everyone but I just loved it. It is way more brutal and dark than the first book. I love the location of medieval Tallinn! The third book is already waiting on my shelf. Hopefully I get to it soon! 😁

Saw the St Olaf's church today. It was under construction so couldn't visit inside. Maybe next time.

One of the story locations. 😍

I loved reading about mediaval Tallinn! This reminded me a bit of Niklas Natt och Dag but was much lighter to read. I'm definitely going to read the other books in this series.

Finally found a cafe I like in Tallinn! My previous favourite had vanished. This one is even atached to a big bookstore!! So perfect! 😍

Decided to beging a new book. This one is set to mediaval Tallinn. I took a stroll around the old town couple days ago and saw the book locations. Perfect read for the trip! ❤📖

In 1654 Queen Christina of Sweden abdicated her throne so she could spend more time travelling and studying, and I feel like we would have gotten along.

✅ Done!

This book is a man‘s musings on his life as he journeys by train. Martens was a real person, and I found the Estonian perspective of the world slightly interesting. However, I was more often somewhat bored by his thoughts on international treaties or his own daily life. Mainly, I‘m just glad to consider the book finished!

BarbaraBB Kudos for finishing. Such a hard read. And boring. 3y
Daisey @BarbaraBB Thanks! Yes, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect after your review, but it was just a slow and mostly boring read. 3y
Liz_M I think I blanked out the experience of reading this one as I was reading. In one eyeball and put the other. 😁 3y
Daisey @Liz_M seeing both of your comments makes me feel even better about finding this boring and not getting why it‘s considered great. 3y

I started my quiet Christmas morning with the last day of my Christmas devotional and a few pages of this book with breakfast. This book is less than thrilling, but I‘m determined to keep on with a chapter or two at a time to finish it before the end of the year. Now it‘s on to the final prepping of food and heading to all the family festivities.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas today! 🎄
