I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it.

1. Still can't believe I got a tattoo about two and a half weeks ago! 😳
2. A friend gifted me the dragon when she heard I got the dragonfly tattoo and that I was also reading Fourth Wing
3. + 4. For sure, I'm getting a betta fish tattoo on my left thigh by the end of the year. Unsure about the stylized dragonfly tattoo
5. I'm so glad I have bookish friends here at Litsy and at the IRL Book Circle at the library

Interesting and surprising beginning of a Canadian mystery series. I liked how uncomfortable Karl can be in situations. He's not the typical cop. He's vulnerable, crotchety at times, and stubborn. He's also sometimes needy.

The victim was well portrayed and complex with depths and surprises. The mystery, while we knew who dunnit from the beginning, was still intriguing enough to hold my interest easily.

This mystery has been on my ebook shelf for a while. It's set on BC's Sunshine Coast where my sister-in-law lives. The first time we went I thought, this would be the perfect setting for a murder mystery. Turned out I was not the first to have that idea. 😉
A solid mystery, the killer is revealed on page 1. As the story unfolds, you follow RCMP staff sergeant Karl Alberg put it together. Good characters, good setting, good pace. Author was 👇

merelybookish Apparently was dubbed once Canada's ?? "Queen of Crime Fiction." (Pre-Louise Penny ?). Coincidentally, it's just been turned into a tv series: Murder in a Small Town. Anyhoo, always enjoy a mystery at Xmas time. Unfortunately meets no criteria for #ChristmasCrimeChallenge unless 1984 counts as historical. ? @RaeLovesToRead 4mo
LeahBergen You‘ve just reminded me that I want to watch that series! I was talking about it with MY Sunshine Coast sister-in-law this summer. 😆 4mo

There‘s no question that I. S. Berry has mad writing skills. There‘s a great story embedded in this thriller. I just wish that there was also at least one likeable character. I get it, spy novels are all about treachery and betrayal. Berry describes her protagonist, Shane Collin‘s, as world-weary. He is that, and his colleagues and foes are very ready to betray him, and themselves. I kept reading to find some redemption; there is none.

I haven't read this since it came out, but I remember finding it very thought-provoking and powerful.

A good book with a twisty ending! If you live in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, then you‘ll really like this book as it‘s chock full of place references. And the protagonist is a smart-aleck, so it‘s fun to read. If you don‘t know the Twin Cities, you‘ll learn a lot!

Pulled a book that has been on my shelf for a long time (one of my reading goals this year) and I love it! What took me so long?? #waybackbacklist #readinggoals #FelonyandMayhem #backlistbonanza

Freespirit I love when I read a hidden gem of a book that has been languishing on my TBR shelf! 4y
