#FeelinTheLove

#Narcissism at it‘s finest. 🖤

dabbe 🎯🎯🎯 I loved this book as a child; then I read it a few years ago and was like 😳? Not one character was likable--for reasons well stated above! 1mo
AnnCrystal Oh no! I haven't seen this story since I was a kid! I loved it back then...😳🥺🤔. 1mo
Eggs Absolutely 👍🏼 1mo
Eggs @dabbe @AnnCrystal I obsessed over this book as a teen and now feel totally opposite! 1mo
AnnCrystal @Eggs yikes! I may postpone rewatching this for a long, long time 😂🤗💝. 1mo

2. Today is last day of #LetterMo - I have sent 119 notes or postcards 💌📬
3. Copper got to run around and play with Pearl 🐶
4. My recipe box 📦 🎥 will be featured in a documentary!!
5. Nice visit to the in-laws in Neb. And lots of great barns to see on the drive. 📸

Ruthiella So over the top! 😂 1mo
BkClubCare @Ruthiella - people have been messy over-reacting humans since time immortal? That is what I come to understand when I read classics. 1mo
Ruthiella @BkClubCare Well, I do think that Emily Brontë turned it up to 11! ? 1mo

Wuthering Heights | Bronte Emily

So, one of the categories for the #ReadICT (City of Wichita KS) Reading Challenge is a book that scares me.

I have been fearful of this book. For. Ever? A long time?! I was dismissive of the “girl authors” when I was a snotty snob in HS decades ago and NOW, honestly, them Bronte sisters scare me! 😳 I listened to Jane Eyre (Thandie Newton 🌟) and ❤️‘d it. Will WH give me the same reaction?

LoverOfLearning Hmmm. These books are a bit different. Jane Eyre feels much slower and more character based, whereas WH is a bit more Gothic, quicker paced and more focused on the theme/plot itself not just the characters. Hope this helps. Give it a shot. The audiobook was pretty good. But there many different audios so find one where you like the narrarators voice best. 2mo
Ruthiella Agreed with @LoverOfLearning Emily Brontë‘s style is very different from Charlotte‘s. I‘d also try the audio, not only because there is at least one character who speaks entirely in Yorkshire dialect. ? 2mo
LoverOfLearning @Ruthiella yes exactly! Ha. But I did enjoy both of these books! Not my favorite of the classics world but definitely worthy. 2mo

Tamra WH is one of my all time favorites! ❤️ 2mo
BkClubCare @LoverOfLearning I am definitely going audio. I have done enough research (too much?!) of these books that have only added to me trepidation. I did not mean to imply that JE and WH are similar- only that I feared both, in their own way. 2mo
BkClubCare @Ruthiella - I *ADORE* the classics via audio. I hope that I have fabulous experience 😊 2mo
BkClubCare @Tamra - that is part of my irrational “fear” so many have loved it, and so many have said that their stage-in-life affects their reaction. Kinda wonder if I am “too late” 2mo
Tamra @BkClubCare it seems to be polarizing because it is about people behaving badly. 😬 Go into it curious and try to let go of expectations. It‘s okay if you don‘t like it! 2mo
LoverOfLearning @Tamra agree! Go into it as if you know nothing. I found it interesting thinking about how differently we respond to heartbreak and societal differences today. 2mo
Readerann I don‘t remember too much about how I felt about the characters - but I DO remember how much I loved the writing . 2mo
Lcsmcat If you remember WH is not a love story but a revenge story you‘ll get more out of it. (edited) 2mo
BkClubCare @Readerann - it‘s a classic for a reason. For this, I am looking fwd. and why audio is my choice cc 2mo
BkClubCare @Lcsmcat - good to know 👍 2mo
Suet624 I read it years ago - decades ago - and loved it. 2mo
TheLudicReader Do it! 2mo

Saw this posted by an acquaintance on Instagram, and I am once again begging the world to stop romanticizing this story of generational abuse, trauma, and revenge. #WanderingThroughWutheringHeights

bookishbitch I was so concerned for a moment. Yes!!!! Say it louder for the people in the back please! 2mo
Andrea313 @bookishbitch I suppose I should have edited the image with a giant thumbs-down emoji or something! Because UGHHH. The only thing tells me is that whoever made this list has never read the book. And obviously the person who reposted it has never read it, either. 2mo
readingjedi Yes! It's the antithesis of romance - horrible people being horrible to one another (and I love it!) 2mo
Andrea313 @readingjedi Right! I'm not saying I don't enjoy it! But come on, it's not romantic! Capital "R" Romantic, yes! Valentine's Day post on Insta romantic? GTFO. 2mo
bookandbedandtea Ugh yes! It's a well told- even fascinating- story but romantic it is not! 2mo

Two come to mind:

Wuthering Heights and A Tale of Two Cities.

I just didn't appreciate them the first time. Too immature, I guess. I was in high school. I tried again when I was a young mother. Still, no. It was in my mid 40s when I finally understood the appeal.

#SundayFunDay @BookmarkTavern

BookmarkTavern Wuthering is one of those I need to revisit. I was also in high school when I first read it. Thanks for posting! 2mo
BkClubCare I have a reading challenge with a category of “book that scares you”. I am thinking of listening to Wuthering Hts. 🫣 2mo
Butterfinger @BkClubCare I don't think it's scary. It is one of the earliest Gothic atmospheric books. Daphne du Maurier is scarier. She wrote the classic The Birds. 2mo
BkClubCare Oh, I don‘t mean scary like “BOO!” — I mean, that I don‘t know what my reaction will be. Sorry, maybe that doesn‘t make any sense. 2mo
Butterfinger @BkClubCare makes perfect sense. 2mo

Eggs I was lovesick for this novel as a teen💖 2mo
dabbe @Eggs I was, too! I read it a few years back and wasn't as enamored. In fact, I was like “these two people are jerks!“ 😂🤩🤗 2mo
