Sagei.9

“This movement, or migration, of people continued very slowly over thousands of years. New groups moved across from Asia, and earlier arrivals moved farther into the new land. Gradually people spread throughout what are now Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central and South America.“

This book features lots of maps to help visualize the journeys taken to the Americas.

A history of the Americas, starting with ancient people coming over from the land bridge. I like that this book starts and values the people who were here first (Indigenous peoples).

My choice for #BookedInTime this month is By Fire, By Water. I know very little about the #SpanishInquisition , so this should be an interesting read. @Cuilin

Cuilin I like the cover. This is a new to me era mostly too. 9mo
julieclair @Cuilin Just fyi, I have created a challenge on StoryGraph to track my #BookedInTime reading. It‘s not a public challenge (so won‘t show up in searches on SG), but I can share the link with other people. Do you think any of our other Booked-in-Timers might like to use that? 9mo
Cuilin @julieclair yes! Sounds fantastic!! 9mo
julieclair @Cuilin Great! Here‘s the link: https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/f6f6ac21-909a-4d7e-9e1c-2084aab... I‘ll create another post (maybe tomorrow) and tag everyone. 9mo
Cuilin @julieclair perfect!!! 😍 9mo

Encounter was written by Jane Yolen and David Shannon. This book shares a story from a different perspective- from the Taino Indians that Christopher Columbus met when he first landed in San Salvador in 1492.

This B about Christopher Columbus will teach students about his life and voyage to America, and what impact he made on American History. This story would benefit best through a RA, where students can be asked/discuss questions aloud with their peers and teacher. https://readingeggs.com/articles/2015/03/03/read-aloud-books/ this link shows the importance of RA‘s. #ucflae3414sp21

Adodd1 The UDL strategy best fit would be 3.2, highlighting patterns, critical features, big ideas and relationships. The ESOL strategy best fit would be 22, giving students enough time to answer each question. 4y
DrSpalding English learner strategy works nicely with your resource. Reading aloud biographies during science and social studies is a good idea. 4y

In school, the arrival of Europeans was always the beginning of the story. This novel subverts that pattern, giving a matter-of-fact look at the culture of one island people through the eyes of two children. It's sweet and emotionally complex and ultimately sad because we know the unwritten ending to this story. The character-driven story was a new experience for my 11-year-old.

ImperfectCJ @TheAromaofBooks Thanks! But I just realized I made my son 11 already instead of 10 and 11.25 months. Oops! 4y

This is historical revision done right. This is a story of Columbus & Co. showing up through a Taino boy‘s perspective.
