The Care of Fine Books | Jane Greenfield
post image

These are just a few of the free #Kindle books available from Simon & Schuster on Amazon today. It‘s mostly nonfiction (a lots of cookbooks, outdoors/hunting, sports, etc,) and it takes forever to go through, but there are lots of nice editions of classics, some YA, and hidden gems like these. (Just double-check price before clicking; there are some sponsored, non-free listings sprinkled in.) #kindledeals #kindlefreebies

Minor Book Repair: COMPLETE
The edges I the cover were starting to peel back. I‘m not entirely sure why, as it sits on my bedside table, but I got everything covered in clear, acid-free packaging tape to make sure it stays in one piece.

Most of my #crimesagainstcovers are still at my parents house, unfortunately I haven‘t quite gotten all my books from my old bedroom. But here are some torn book jackets and broken spines for the #crimesagainstcovers #photochallenge brought to you by my kitten, Bug, who would not get out of my photo!

Erinsuereads Good kitty! Hold the covers on for mama! 6y

One is less damaged and more just old. The other is an antique shop find, held together by tape and other printed paper you can start to read through the holes in the cover. Not pictured I also have DreamCather where rhe entire cover is gone #crimesagainstcovers #DayOne @ErinSueG

Erinsuereads Oh man that is a good one! Literally other papers splinting it???? 6y

My beloved Laura Ingalls Wilder series. Little House in the Big Woods is in need of some help. Yet These Happy Golden Years is in great shape. Why you ask? I reread the series over and over but only to Laura‘s age as she matched my own. Each time I reread from the beginning of the series thus this one shows the love. Happy memories! @ErinSueG #crimesagainstcovers

Erinsuereads What a fantastic story!!! 6y

#crimesagainstcovers #photochallenge #dayone. My Mum was given this as a Christmas present in 1951 when she was 4. Growing up I used to read this when we visited Nana's house. I have had it now for at least 30 years, was just old when I got to it but now it is wrecked. @ErinSueG

Erinsuereads It looks like@you are doing an admirable job of trying to keep it in one piece! 6y

#crimesagainstcovers I am sure I have others, but this was the first one that came to mind. It came from a library or a book sale. It seems like it has been well loved! Sorry it doesn't have a better story!
@ErinSueG

Erinsuereads Woahhhhhh that‘s one heck of a spine break!! Did all the pages stay in??? 6y
AsYouWish @ErinSueG So far, so good! I have to admit that it was slightly heart pounding when I got close to that part and I had to hold it a bit differently until I got far enough to trust that the pages would stay in. 6y
Erinsuereads Oh man! Scary stuff! I don‘t think I could handle the stress! 6y

AsYouWish It could be worse, one of the books my student loves to check out from the library was forced into retirement due to major spine breakage that could no longer be repaired. It was super sad for both of us! @ErinSueG 6y
Ddzmini I usually put a little glue on the exposed pages and the cover and leave it to dry. It‘s not a permanent fix but it works for awhile. I get the children‘s glue that you wipe on 6y
Erinsuereads @ddzimini good idea. I go to a book fair every year and they have a bunch of seminars about how to fix books. I should go to some probably 😂 6y
