so-soThere is some decent stories and some outstanding artwork in the Blacksad series, but this is by far the weakest album. There is no real plot, and the art is substandard. (Which is not terrible. Guarnido is too talented for that.) It is understandable that the series is on a break now.
pickI'm sad to have completed the Blacksad series, because they are such engaging, beautiful books. A Silent Hell was a little lackluster in its story, but still a fun ride and includes a great section where artist Juanjo Guarnido breaks down his process. Amarillo was a different kind of story for the series and quite good. I'll definitely be checking out the PlayStation game in September!
pickMy favorite cat detective goes to New Orleans to help music promotor Faust Lachapelle find his missing star Sebastian. The story is well told but hardly original. The art, however, is gorgeous. Guarnido draws light masterfully and New Orleans looked just the way I think it should.
pickIn this short volume, Blacksad hits the road to Texas. He‘s on the hunt for a hot headed beatnik lion wanted for murder and grand theft auto. More fantastic drawings, just wish it were longer.
pickThe third in the series, this noir story continues to follow detective Blacksad. Like all the series, the artwork is fantastic. Highly recommend graphic novel fans to check out this series, which is in my top 5.
Again fantastic art in the Blacksad series. Loving the color scheme, layout, and detail in this 3rd book.
pickThis follow-up to Blacksad, one of my favorite graphic novels, includes one full story, 2 short stories, and Waterstory, a 30+ page piece by Juanjo Guarnido on artistic choices in the graphic novel. The art is this is beautiful and reading Waterstory was very interesting.
I was supposed to be at work today but instead I'm stuck at work with food poisoning! Lost 2kgs over the weekend so that was fun! Only way to make up for it is by reading some amazing books!
If the next book is as good as the previous ones then Blacksad will definitely do the job!!
