The Coldest Winter Ever | Sister Souljah
post image
Mehso-so

Slowly checking off items from my #blackandbookedchallenge. This one was difficult to read because I'm not a fan of contemporary urban fiction at all but I'll attempt to separate the book from the genre...

An unlikable MC and generally little action did nothing to win me over BUT I couldn't stop reading, if only to see Winter get what was coming to her. Make of that what you will.

⭐⭐⭐

KT1432 I felt the same way! I didn't end up finishing the book when I tried reading it last year because it was due back to the library. I have a hold on it right just so I can see what happens lol. I hated the MC and didn't really enjoy the half I did read. Not my cup of tea at all. 6y
EchoLogical @lele1432 She was the worst! 6y

Liatrek Great review! I am planning to read this in February 😊 6y
Liatrek I finally started reading this today 😊 omg I love it and hate I waited so long 🤦🏾‍♀️ 6y
EchoLogical @Liatrek It just comes as off so genuine. I'm so glad she wrote it. 6y

I thought about using a less abrasive quote but decided this was most fitting for such a moving book. I didn't like it because it really wasn't "enjoyable" material but it stuck with me.

An account I follow on IG posted this and I've adapted it as a reading challenge for this year because clearly I'm slacking on important black reads. 😔 The items crossed out are things I have read. Everything else, I haven't. So if my #blitsyhistorymonth match is reading this... Hint hint!

IamIamIam Hidden Figures was spectacular!!! Those women were true heroes! 6y
Tamra Great list! 6y
LoverofLit Thank you for posting this! One of my goals for this year is to read more books by POC. 6y

AlwaysForeverReading You have some great titles on your list. I read some of theses novels in college. 6y
EchoLogical @IamIamIam I look forward to reading about them. 6y
EchoLogical @Tamra I mostly agree but there are few here that I‘d never given a second look if not for this list, like Push and The Color Purple because I‘d imagine they‘re pretty difficult reads but I‘m trying to step a little outside of my comfort zone. 6y
EchoLogical @LoverofLit Oh cool! Let me know if you read any of them. 🙂 6y
Chelleo Great idea to post for your match! Try The Color Purple...it was a great read and relatively short. 6y
EchoLogical @Chelleo Good to know! Don‘t revoke my black card for this but I‘ve never even seen the movie all the way through. 😬 6y
Chelleo @EchoLogical Hold up! What?! Girl! 🤦🏾‍♀️ 6y
EchoLogical @Chelleo The whole "struggly black people" narrative makes me angry and to top it off, I'm not much of a movie buff. There are tons of classics I haven't watched. ??‍♀️ 6y
