This piece of literature is written in prose and can be counted as realistic fiction and it is great for high-order thinking ESL students who need big vocabulary words to retain in their everyday development. Jamie Lee Curtis has written multiple picture books for children, yet this one captured my eye because of the message behind it.

AndreaEfres This book is best suited for K5 and even for ELL students who are over achievers (like myself).

LAFS.5.W.3.8 Recall relevant information from experiences or gather relevant information from print and digital sources; summarize or paraphrase information in notes and finished work, and provide a list of sources. This standard helps us connect to a more relevant society where students are grasping with the fast use of technology.

AndreaEfres UDL (2.5) Illustrate through multiple media. With the use of visuals, the longer words become easier on the students since they can relate to what it is depicting.

DrSpalding When you say K5 I assume you mean kindergarten through fifth grade. This book is certainly for the primary grades, kindergarten through second would be most appropriate. Another helpful website resource. You found excellent resources in the majority of your posts! 4y

This RF. This book is great for RA for kindergarten. The book teaches higher vocabulary for younger children. The author applies difficult words to real-life situations. Big Words for Little People is a fun RF book to use as both a RA and PR. This book can enhance students‘ vocabulary because it is full of new big words! After performing a RA or having PR, students can pair up and use this synonym sheet (https://www.lessonplanet.com/teachers/big-words-for-little-people)to compare the words within the book, to words they previously knew; which will have them activate their background knowledge.

AlexRobinson I saw a few of our peers read this for their teach live presentations and I fell in love with it each time I heard it! SUCH a great book to teach big vocabulary, how to break apart vocabulary, emotions and feelings, and so many other fun concepts! Watching now students reacted to the teachlive also gave a good idea of how students would potentially react to such a book and activities you could do because of it! 4y

I was initially drawn to the colorful illustrations. Once I read through, I was pleasantly surprised at the celebration of words and the way in which it went about introducing new words to young readers. The content speaks to experiences that many of us can relate to. And at the end, reminding us of the biggest word of all - LOVE.

AshleyH -UDL strategies I would apply in the read-aloud are 2.1 + 3.3 which involves clarifying vocabulary and providing information processing and visualization.

-ESOL students would benefit by seeing the visualizations by new vocabulary words. EL strategy #5. 4y
