A memoir that is full of lies is a #badselfportrait. #NoFemmeber

MoniqueReads305 I couldn't remember if this was the book that caused a lot of controversy years ago after being spotlighted by Oprah. I'm still curious to read it though... 6y
MommyWantsToReadHerBook I couldn't deal with the content, and when I found out it wasn't all true I dropped it like a hot potato! 6y
JamieArc @MoniqueReads305 It was! I vividly remember watching the episode where he admitted it on Oprah! (edited) 6y

Cinfhen I‘m sort of intrigued by this book.... 6y
Cinfhen Great choice for the prompt 6y
Eva_B I read it after the author was on Oprah. I ,therefore, read it as a work of fiction. With that in mind, I think it is actually well written and quite a good read. 6y
Billypar Bad self portrait minus the 'self' part 😬 6y

#nofemmeber #badselfportrait

A memoir is a kind of #selfportrait right? And Reggie and Ronnie Kray were definitely #bad
This has been on my TBR since watching the movie Legend. Which was excellent IMO. But then I may be a bit biased because #tomhardyisalegend

JennyM Such a good pick! 6y
Cathythoughts I‘m out of this loop ....I don‘t much about them ... only I know they are really bad. the picture is scarey & a majorly good choice .... 👍🏻👍🏻❤️ (edited) 6y
Centique @JennyM thanks! 😘 6y

Centique @Cathythoughts London gangsters of the 50s and 60s. If you see the movie Legend on Netflix have a watch - I don‘t know how accurate it is but it‘s a great “bad romance” “good girl meets bad boy” story. 6y
gradcat Ha ha! I love this “bad” self-portrait...and indeed, the Krays were baaaddd guys! 6y
Billypar I know zero about these gangsters or I think any London gangsters. 6y
Billypar (just the fictional ones from Guy Ritchie films). Now I'm curious ☺️ 6y
Centique @Billypar these guys are super interesting. Identical twins and one of them had a psychiatric disorder of some kind. Uber violent but I‘m fascinated to find out more 😳 6y
Cinfhen Echoing @Billypar never heard of them but their photo has an eerie quality ~ I‘m curious 6y

Some may say that this book was a poor reflection on Dorey-Stein, who worked as a stenographer at the White House during the Obama administration. D-S has a very toxic love affair going on during the course of her time in the WH that is difficult and irritating to read about, but I also thought it was genuine and brave for her to share every aspect of her story.

#badselfportrait #nofemmeber

Cinfhen She recently spoke at my “local” library in PA. Apparently she‘s a neighborhood girl and I heard she was super chill and a lovely speaker ~ right @DivineDiana 6y
Reviewsbylola That‘s the thing, it‘s easy to judge and want to shake some sense into her, but I think most of us go through these learning experiences in our youth and at least she is brave enough to tell her story. I definitely think she would be a cool person to hang out with. And I found her story fascinating. @Cinfhen 6y
Billypar I'm curious to try one of these behind-the-scenes memoirs written by non-politicians: this reminds me of another one (with that cover that cracks me up). But the romantic angle is interesting to me- I think a good memoir should cover all dimensions when it's about a specific time in the writer's life. 6y
DivineDiana Yes, she is! @Cinfhen Love makes you do foolish things particularly when you are young. I haven‘t read the book yet, but she is an intelligent, charming, young woman with a great sense of humor. When I attended the author talk, her parents, sister and former teachers were all there to support her. I was impressed! 6y
Cinfhen Now I really want to read this book @DivineDiana 💕 6y

Today‘s song gives me ANOTHER excuse to recommend my favorite book I read last year!
I love this story of female friendship, art and parental narcissism, set in 1930‘s Australia.
Lily is a loner until she meets the vibrant daughters of well-known artist Evan Trentham. When the Trenthams open their home as an artists commune, their daughters and Lily bear the brunt of their neglectful parenting to devastating effect.

Cinfhen Awesome graphics and I know....I NEED to read this book already 6y

Someone recommended this to me awhile ago, so I picked up a copy from Book Outlet, and it‘s on my to read list...

What happens when a painting leads to danger and self discovery? The main character Annie finds out when she discovers a painting in a second hand store. Not a #BadSelfPortrait , but it is a painting that stirs trouble. #NoFemmeber

WanderingBookaneer I enjoyed this one! It was like a bookish soap opera. 6y
Librarybelle @WanderingBookaneer I love that description! 6y
Billypar Interesting concept! ☺️ 6y
Cinfhen Sorry I missed this post... this book had potential but it became like a bad Monty Python zany madcap adventure and totally annoyed me. 6y

Darcy's description might be accurate but it's a #BadSelfPortrait for getting Lizzie to like him! #NoFemmeBer @Cinfhen @Billypar

Billypar True! If it were modern times that would be one to edit out of his online dating profile 😁 6y
