The Dance Deception | Becky Ward

Pickpick

Good. Full of tension and drama. Felt like I was backstage at Strictly with all the drama going on as the writing made it feel like I was part of the action not just a reader. Even though the story was exciting the sex scenes in this book did make me cringe so as much as I enjoyed it, those scenes nearly made me stop reading. Thank you #AvonBooks for inviting me to read this via #Netgalley.

Go Ask Alice | Anonymous
post image

I read this book first when I crept barely into my teen years. It is heartbreakingly honest. Reality is as crazy as it can get when you are taking Bennies, downers, LSD, Pot and Heroin. Go Ask Alice, she‘ll tell you all about it.

Who is Anonymous anyway?
That‘s what my next book to read will hopefully explain- Unmask Alice by Rick Emerson.

TheBookHippie I‘ll be excited to hear what you think! I read Alice in the late 1970s I still think about it. 3y
Jennifer3 I read this too when I was a teenager. It was a book of my mom‘s. I love that my parents let me ready anything I wanted or interested me. 3y
LinesUponAPage @TheBookHippie it‘s definitely a book that changes your perception of people and their struggles. I‘ll let you know. The Unmask Alice is an ARC. So, it will be a bit. 3y

LinesUponAPage @Jennifer3 parents like that are the best, at least I think so because then they let you ask questions and talk about scenarios that help form who you are. My mom is the one that bought the book for me (which is the original copy in this photo). My brother was deep into the drug scene and she wanted me to understand why he struggled so much with breaking the habit. It was horrific for our family. This book made me more empathetic. 3y
TheBookHippie @Lifeisasnap I lived in the middle of it so it was more like I wasn‘t the only one. It was so good to read in print how people I loved were struggling, like you I had family members and friends afflicted. So heartbreaking for everyone. One of my very best friends died from drugs when he was 17. It still seems unreal so many decades later. 3y
allureofbeauty I used to love the anonymous journal books but there is a lot of drama around them and Beatrice sparks. 3y
Jennifer3 @Lifeisasnap I agree, I think allowing me to read and talk about the books helped me to learn so much. Also I feel like this book shaped me in a way that I found my career as more of calling. I‘ve been a social worker since 1998 and helping to show empathy and care for those struggling with addiction and mental health being my specialty. 3y
LinesUponAPage @TheBookHippie I‘m so sorry for your loss. I had nightmares that that would happen to my brother and they were always to that darn Seasons in the Sun song. It is tragic what drugs do to people and the people who love them. My brother died at 40 from a reaction between his bipolar meds & some alcohol (the only Vice he couldn‘t get rid of). It took 20 years for doctors to figure out he was self medicating with the drugs for his bipolar. 3y
LinesUponAPage @allureofbeauty i didn‘t know there were others that were anonymous. I guess I missed them. Interesting. 3y
LinesUponAPage @Jennifer3 that is amazing that you have been able to try and help those in need of help. I can only imagine it must be so hard when people don‘t use the help that is available to them because they aren‘t ready for it. I‘m sure it‘s so frustrating but satisfying when they can kick it daily. 3y
Jennifer3 @Lifeisasnap Exactly - it‘s a bit of a rollercoaster ride at times. But when someone changes their life it is amazing to have played a small role in helping them on that new path. 3y
allureofbeauty There are quite a few of them. Like maybe ten or more. Jays journal I think was the next one and his family was very upset about it. You can google it and find out more. 3y
TheBookHippie @Lifeisasnap so sorry. It‘s awful truth for so many undiagnosed people. 3y

Thanks to #netgalley and #avonbooks for the ARC in exchange for an honest and fair review. To say I was hooked from the first chapter is an understatement. It's a domestic thriller based on 2 women living next door to each other, 1 is convinced the other is sleeping with her husband and starts plotting revenge on them both. Just when you think you have solved it, further demises are plotted on each other and it will keep you hooked to the very end.

Spies and blackmail, revenge, a scandalous red dress and an even more scandalous mechanical chair make this funny and steamy story a delight to read. I enjoyed it very much. Medium Steam.
