Somewhat rambling family saga, where I didn‘t connect with any of the characters and was not really interested in what would happen to any of them.
At least this is now off mount TBR and I can move on with life.

The book fairies are looking after me. I requested this book from the library. The only hard copy was in our State Library . Today I found this copy in a local op shop. 👏👏. I‘m very happy.
Truly Carey‘s masterpiece, even years later reading it for the second time. A world where nothing is real, every character and every event is a deception, a misdirection, a hoax and/or a joke, a beautiful world of words with deadly consequences. This has a modern resonance, though it was written before fake news and liars as politicos were really a thing, it‘s still relevant as a testament to truth. Carey makes you believe that words matter.
This was on my tbr pile of books I bought at an op (thrift) shop because it looked interesting… not sure how long I‘ve had this one - but it absolutely sent me down an internet rabbit hole to discover what I could about Ruth M. Hawker - which I‘ve since added to her GR page. Put my GR librarian powers to good use.
I‘ve never seen this kind of notice before! Truely a glimpse into a different time.
A rather gorgeous slice of life fiction about town girl, Heather, who gets sent to spend her holidays with her uncle who lives on a remote outback farm when her mother is called away to take care of a sick relative. Heather makes a friend, learns to ride a horse, writes a brilliant essay about her holiday and overcomes several sticky situations with good cheer.
Originally published in 1950 - this is a nostalgic look at (white) rural life in 🇦🇺
I really enjoyed this book! Although I don‘t know how to review it! There isn‘t much of a plot. It is more a book about some characters that are loosely connected. Beautiful writing and wonderful descriptions of places and people. A friend recommended this author to me and I will definitely be reading more.
