“(Crowley) rather liked people. It was major failing in a demon. Oh, he did his best to make their short lives miserable, because that was his job, but nothing he could think up was half as bad as the stuff they thought up themselves. They seemed to have a talent for it. It was built into the design, somehow. They were born into a world that was against them in a thousand little ways, and then devoted most of their energies to making it worse.”

(2016) Here's a mostly-excellent collection of apocalyptic and postapocalyptic stories featuring protagonists with disabilities. Standouts for me are Stephanie Gunn's "To take into the air my quiet breath," about sisters with cystic fibrosis who survive a global plague; and John Chu's "Selected afterimages of the fading," about an apocalypse in which inattention causes the world to fade. I also quite liked Janet Edwards's "I will remember you."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wanted to read this for years but was always put off by the length. The other day I was browsing Google Books' sale section and came across the full cast audiobook for just $5.99, and I knew I had to get it. It was the longest audiobook I've listened to, but I LOVED it and couldn't stop listening! I finished it before going in to work on Thursday, and I started it all over again on my way home that night! It's so much fun!

#TeamWhoYaGonnaCall One more sleep then the spooktacular fun begins! Keep track of your points (don't forget the word search, and don't forget to time how long you read!!!) Also, keep us all informed with your reading and watching. Each #scarathlon post you make nets you 1 point. Write a review, cross things off your TBR or Bucket List, ask for movie suggestions. But most importantly: Have some frightening fun!

ChaoticMissAdventures Team any tips for a person with terrible time management, and who will read like 2 pages while in line? I am wondering if finding the audio book time and using that is considered cheating? I normally read 3-4 books at a time and am terrible at sitting for stretches of time to read. Thanks! 14mo
Airykah13 @ChaoticMissAdventures I don‘t see anything wrong with using audiobook time. It‘s a good estimate. 14mo

FlynnDewey @ChaoticMissAdventures Not cheating at all! Whatever you need to do to record your time. I generally set a timer on my watch. If I remember lol. 14mo
bthegood @ChaoticMissAdventures keep count of time whatever way you need to and have fun -If I'm reading at different times throughout the day, in different places, than I guestimate based on total number of pages read that day 🙂 (edited) 14mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @Airykah13 @FlynnDewey @bthegood thanks so much! There are so many ways for points, and it is a bit overwhelming! Going to do our best! 14mo
FlynnDewey @ChaoticMissAdventures I totally get that feeling, trust me! I say, just focus on the areas you think will be more fun. Do more Readathons or focus more on the games. The points are nice, but the reading and the games are the best part for me. Don't stress about points. :D Just have fun! 14mo
Melismatic @FlynnDewey I‘m keeping tabs on my reading thru the Bookly app - I find that helpful. Do we get points for hours read it is that the readathon thing? 😅 14mo
FlynnDewey @Melismatic That's right! Readathons are a great way to build points, since you get them for time spent reading. And you can participate in more than one at a time! 14mo

Loved this book. It‘s not a new story (big meteor about to crash into earth), but it‘s so well written from several seemingly unrelated points of view. In the end it all comes together beautifully. 👍

I liked the basic story. It is a good apocalyptic survival story. Although we never get a real idea of why Ben has survived untouched while everyone else is affected.

I did not like the way Ben's weight was treated by the other characters and also by himself. There is a lot of hateful speech that wasn't really necessary. The story would have been just as interesting without all the insults and fat phobia.

I started and ended the year with Vivian Apple. As Vivian continues her quest against the villainous Church of America which is busy at work deluding people and monetizing the apocalypse, she becomes a little less normal human being navigating the apocalypse and a little more “Vivian Apple, unlikely action hero.” As such, I preferred the first book but this one was still good and a satisfying conclusion to Viv‘s story. #bookspinbingo
