Chap 4&5 #ADOW

Diana is really slow on the uptake in figuring out why daemons, vampires and other witches have suddenly developed a huge interest in her every action.

She heads out on the river to row, but cannot shake Matthew. He pops up everywhere she goes. So she does the only sensible thing: looks him up on Google and phones a scientist friend to get all the gossip on him.

Made some applesauce tonight with the apples we picked!

Chapter 2: Both the reader and Diana meet 🧛‍♀️ Matthew Clairmont for the first time. His scent of clove & cinnamon made me light a pumpkin spice candle. 🤣 Her aunts are exasperated at yet another creature drawn to her.

Chap 3: The first chapter from Matthew‘s POV. When he creepily sneaks into Diana‘s apt while she is sleeping, he ends up spellbound by her luminous outpouring, and almost forgets to search for Ashmole 782.

#adowrtr buddy read Chap 1!

I read #ADOW when it first came out, but never continued the series. Not sure why!

I love how Harkness incorporates real things and people. Ashmole 782 is an actual missing manuscript the Bodleian library lost. Rebecca Bishop, Diana‘s ancestor in the story, was the first woman executed in the Salem witch trials. I love the blending of reality and fantasy.

Next up, Mabon! #AllSouls

This book was splendid! It's a #chunkster, but I could hardly put it down. There's so much more insight into how the relationship between Diana and Matthew unfolds than what the tv series shows (of course!). In fact I'm finally understanding many aspects of some of the show's scenes now that I've read the book. 😁 This history nuggets implanted in the book are delightful to this history nut! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
