Sorry, I'm a day late - Turns out some of my #whitespines books are either some of my favorites or some that I am really looking forward to reading 😊#augustphotochallenge

MrBook #NiceStack! 😊👍🏻 8y
BostonBookAddict What is a cancer in the family about? 8y
Reading_E @BostonBookAddict it's by someone I know, she is an MD/PhD who runs the genetic cancer screening clinic here, and a lab working on Breast cancer and she is a patient diagnosed with a mutation that predisposes here to cancer. She discovered strong genetics for cancer predisposition in her entire family. The book is a pretty unique view on cancer genetics with her personal and professional experiences. 8y

BostonBookAddict @Reading_E thank you! I am definitely going to have to get that book. Completely fascinated by books like that. 8y
Reading_E @BostonBookAddict it's a very unique voice! Definitely try it. It gets a bit basic if you know biomedical science but if you don't it's really good!!! 8y
BostonBookAddict @Reading_E I definitely will!! Thank you!! 8y

Apparently I have a thing for books with #whitespines. Who knew? #augustphotochallenge #day25
Now I have to put all these books back... 😕

Simona I'm grateful for #augustphotochallenge because I wiped the dust from the shelves.☺️ 8y
AmyS @Simona Definitely! And it has reminded me of all of the great, still-unread books I own. 😁 8y

More like 50 shades of white.

Marchpane I'm a huge Etgar Keret fan, his short stories are weird but captivating 😊 8y
GuiltyFeat @Marchpane In that case you'll pleased to know that he signed this book for me after I heard him in conversation with Gary Shteyngart at the Jerusalem Writers' Festival a couple of years ago. 8y

Stack of #WhiteSpines. All by awesome lady authors! 🦄

Vinjii That sounds very interesting. 8y
Blaire I read woman in college and remember it kind of blowing my mind at the time. 8y

Shortstack I realized after the fact that all of my white spine stack books were by male authors. It's depressing that when you have had a focus of reading literary canon that means you end up having more men then women. 😓 8y
moranadatter Gorgeous! 8y
BookishFeminist @Vinjii The Left Hand of Darkness? It's really good! 8y
BookishFeminist @Blaire I've read snippets but have yet to tackle the whole thing yet. Soon, perhaps! What I have read is really good. 8y
BookishFeminist @Onioons @MrBook @kmdartist Thank you! Now to put them back on my shelves since I've been procrastinating it since they're so pretty to look at 😭 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack Oh no! 😳 so depressing. I was a French lit and poli sci major so I know what that's like, unfortunately. So much Rousseau! So much sausage fest! 🌭🙅🏻🙅🏻 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist I really love a lot of male writers, but it is disheartening to not see female voices recognized historically. I think studying classic literature is like studying the historical context of social relations. I find it fascinating and that helps me stay distant from the situation. For example, I love reading Bukowksi because his comments say far more about him then the people he's putting down. It intrigues me to study him. 😬 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack Haha I haven't read Bukowski yet but I've been curious because I have a morbid fascination with people's intent & characters. I also have a morbid fascination with Ayn Rand and many other odd ducks. 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist I'm looking forward to reading Ayn Rand as I think she's often misrepresented. Bukowksi is a terrible human being but the defenses he puts up reveal so much about him. He exposes himself as he insults others and there is something interesting about that to me. I've read a lot on him, including a biography. He was a very interesting man with unique writing habits. Yes, I love reading about the habits of writers! 😂😂😂 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack Hahaha I hate read Ayn Rand. Maybe it can be one of your projects once you graduate 😂 we can compare notes. As a poli sci major I had to read her in college and humor was the only thing that got me through it. Mallory Ortberg does excellent Ayn Rand mash-ups that I live for on the-toast.net. Ayn Rand's The Babysitter's Club! @Yamich49 is obsessed too, lol. I also enjoy reading about writers habits, like Hunter S Thompson 😂😂 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist I've read limited about Rand. She fascinates me. I think because one of my best friends is from Russia and moved here right after the Cold War and so has given me a really unique perspective into how the Russian mind works. 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack Yes! Completely agree. Her work is fascinating but lordy she is finicky, lol. The letters she wrote her niece when she asked for a little money once 😂 Like I said, morbid fascination. 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist she's on my post school list to dig into deeper! It's a really really big list though! 😂😂😂 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack @BookishFeminist Yes Ayn Rand!! I do have a weird obsession with her for sureeee. Mallory feeds that obsession regularly (or did while the toast was still up). I've read all of her fiction novels (some of them more than once) and she's a good writer, I just, you know, disagree with about 90% of her beliefs. And the people I've met who are Objectivists and proudly proclaim it have been kind of prickish. 😬 Yet I'm still fascinated w/her 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack If you need someone to hate read her with let me know 😂 I love satirizing her. 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack @BookishFeminist I definitely see how her upbringing and experiences have shaped her world view even if I disagree with it. Like Sarah said - a morbid fascination. 😆 8y
Yamich49 @BookishFeminist @Shortstack Ditto to what Sarah said. I'm always up for a reread of that wacky lady. 8y
Shortstack @Yamich49 @BookishFeminist I will keep that in mind after I graduate! Any suggestion on where I should start? 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack @BookishFeminist Anthem is definitely the shortest and prob easiest to read. Plus it doesn't have the 50+ page speeches that Atlas Shrugged does so that's a plus. 😆 But Atlas Shrugged is definitely the wackiest one and the one that keeps getting adapted into movie versions. 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 Hahaha yep! Proud Objectivists get my side eye 👀 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack @Yamich49 I sense a very fun month or so coming up if we hate read together lol. I agree about Atlas Shrugged. It's so absurd! Those speeches though. It's a tome but it's probably her most iconic work. I'm always game for any of this mess tho. 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist @Yamich49 well next Spring then we may have to make this a thing. 😂 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack @BookishFeminist ✍Penciling it in my calendar as we speak! ✌️ 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack @Yamich49 In my calendar it goes! 😂 8y

Well, this morning's photo for #augustphotochallenge of #whitespines were all books I have read.
Silly me - I was ignoring a gold, I mean white, mine of unread whitespined books on my TBR shelves!
So, here you are - one more photo for today 😊✨

Since these are all waiting in line, feel free to nudge me what to move up my list!
