Wow! This book was overwhelming at first, because of the intricate world building and the way Jemisin just drops you in to everything. (Pro tip - there is a very helpful appendix with vocab and history notes at the back of the book!) BUT the hard work definitely pays off. I was completely fascinated by the characters, the world, and the unanswered questions. Definitely plan to keep going in the trilogy. #thebrokenearth #thefifthseason #jemisin

I‘m nearing halfway through this epic fantasy, and I feel like I‘m finally getting my hooks into the story. A harder read than what I have been choosing lately. But sometimes a challenge is nice.

This book took me weeks and when I finally committed to it I had nearly forgotten everything from the first book. It‘s not the series though, it‘s me. The writing style is immediately recognizable and special. The fantasy world and the whole season & orogenes idea is sooo amazing. I have to remember to hurry up with part 3 before I forget stuff again.

I recently finished going through The Fifth Season again, but this time in audiobook. I wondered beforehand if it would be as good the second time around. It was better. I‘d forgotten more than I‘d realized, but there were details, some obvious and others subtle, that I‘d missed the first time. I‘m more convinced than ever that N.K. Decided to revisit The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin, this time in audiobook, while walking Wicket at the park today. Robin Miles does a wonderful job bringing the story to life. One of the best books/series I've ever read. N.K. Jemisin has done more than write a brilliant, heart-breaking, and inspiring story. This might well be one of the most important fantasy series ever written. The Stone Sky delivers the message loud and clear, and what she's written says so much more about our broken Earth than the one in these novels.

A quarter of the way through The Stone Sky, this story takes one gut wrenching turn after another. In a place such as the Stillness, it's hard to know if 10-year-old Nassun is being led to a place where she will become a savior or destroyer of this world...maybe both.
