pickA bit slower paced compared to most books I read - but I quite enjoyed this book. Any time the book was getting a bit too slow it seemed to pick up. The plot twist wasn't surprising to me but well written and still enjoyable. This book is full of strong women. It touches on many issues; pauper auctions, women's rights and the suffragette movement being the main ones. Three important issues that all should be educated on.
This book was very enjoyable company as I spent 12 hours travelling home across the south of England during yesterday‘s storms

pickA novel about the suffragette movement in the UK told through the eyes of the well-off Evelyn who wants to go to Oxford, pacifist May who holds tight to principles (sometimes at the expense of those she loves) and Nell, a girl who dresses as a boy from hardscrabble Poplar.
We have hunger strikes, violence, WWI, a lesbian relationship and bright girls trying to figure out what they can do in spite of what the world may tell them.
Bittersweet.
pickIn difficult times this gentle, funny, and moving book was perfect. Mattie simpkin is a great character + with flea + other former suffragettes we see what may of happened to some of the fighters for votes in 1928, a changed world where universal sufferage is due but yng women seem unaware of the past heroics and the spectre of fascism looms as a battle for the heart of the yng happens on parliament hill. Loved this, + put it down smiling.
pickThis is an amazing book and I‘d probably have to say it‘s one of my favourite! It shows how hard to it could be living in the war and not having the right to vote. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. I hope you enjoy it if you read it!
