Excellent short story of the meaning of Christmas and the importance of family. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this trilogy and enjoyed the last book even when it meandered. Reading about the places visited during this last road trip with Otto and Rinpoche, I was sad knowing that I won‘t be journeying with them again. But a few destinations have made it onto my bucket list. I‘ll be wondering about Otto and the family for awhile, and reflecting on Rinpoche‘s “wessons” for years to come. If a man like Otto can learn to let go, maybe I can too. 4 ⭐️

This is one of my favorite Christmas stories. Hope my boss loves it as much as I did 🎄

I enjoyed this book very much(pub.1985). I love having the cross cultural perspective that these Folktales are able to achieve and bring. These types of books are some of my favorites because it shows off cultures other than the one I live in.
Aside from that, I think that the illustrations are very unique. I like the constant theme and background with the writing and the illustrations.

I knew that I had to read this book. It was suggested by several different people at different times, and eventually my mentor bought it for me. If that isn‘t a sign, I don‘t know what it! It gave me great things to think about, and I was brought to tears at the end. It‘s so beautiful to think of life as a gift and invitation to love.

I had to return this one to the library yesterday. ☹️ I was anticipating being allowed one more renewal, but someone had put a hold on it, so it had to go back. I was a little over a third of the way through, and was reading it more slowly than anticipated, since at least the first sections were very reflective/meditative. But I‘d like to finish it, and will definitely revisit it when I can get it from the library again!

When Jesus prayed, he was conscious that, in his prayer, he met the Presence, and this consciousness was far more important and significant than the answering of his prayer. It is for this reason primarily that God for Jesus was the answer to all the issues and problems of life. When I, with all my mind and heart, truly seek God and give myself in prayer, I, too, meet his Presence, and then I know for myself that Jesus was right.

I had never heard of Howard Thurman until my EfM group watched a PBS documentary about his life (called “Backs Against the Wall”). Thurman was held by many to be the spiritual center of the American Civil Rights movement, and it‘s said that MLK Jr. carried a copy of Thurman‘s “Jesus and the Disinherited” with him at all times. This book has selections from many of Thurman‘s writings—should be a good intro before I dive into some of his other work.

Read for #bookriot #spiritualjourney. A dystopia set in 2020s Butler describes a future where resources are limited, violence and desperation are rampant and people struggle to survive. Lauren must leave her family home and sets out north with a plan to set up a community based on her system of beliefs she calls earthseed. I like a good dystopia and this was a timely read with 🔥 raging in CA and the state of us politics.
