Granted I was in 8th grade when the tragedy of September 11, 2001 happened and was sheltered from much of the news but I had never heard of Gander, Newfoundland in any other historical context even as an adult let alone the hospitality the community shared with so many when American Air Space was shut down grounding flights for days.

The book the musical Come From Away is based on, read by a strong narrator. It is full of hope and goodness, although the Newfie‘s were both better and worse than in the musical, the passengers and crew also. Some changes made sense - you can‘t have a cast of 10k spread over multiple towns - and others less so. But a story that needs to be told in as many formats as it takes to get the message out there. Be kind. Help each other. Love.

CoverToCoverGirl So proud of my Atlantic Canadian neighbours. What they did was amazing. Newfie‘s are the kindest, funniest and friendliest people. (edited) 1mo

My recent trip to NYC, and 9/11 Museum definitely sparked the desire read this. No words can really explain the day; one I personally remember vividly.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cantor Fitzgerald lost 658 employees on 9/11. Located in the floors above the North Tower impact, they were put in an impossible situation. Many called loved ones to say goodbye. Unfathomable fear. We owe it to them to hear these stories. Barbash chronicles the 6-month period after the devastating loss of life: families, business, recovery, media, grief, guilt. ⬇️

I have been in a reading rut for a while now. School started and I'll start reading to the kids and that should help. But I'm not getting my Litsy notifications. So my motivation to read and review is also tanking. I'm trying out using Instagram and threads, but I'm just not satisfied. I need inspiration!

This book is excellent for teaching the smallest about 911

This book was incredibly well written, but sad and hard to get through. Read it for a book club but I think I‘m going to skip the discussion. With another anniversary coming up this week I‘m just glad I don‘t have to go into DC that day and my kids will be close by.

Starting this month‘s book club book. When they pick books like this it‘s very apparent that I am the oldest by 10 years. Not really something I enjoy reading about- I lived it.

Erinreadsthebooks Interested to hear how you like it. Looks like a good read, tough but good. 4mo

I gravitated towards this because while I didn‘t know any of the students who put this play on, I‘d only left NY 3 months before 9/11 and I did know a few Suyvesant kids who were a few years older, so I was curious to see what their theater department created from that day. In the into, the theater teacher describes designing this project as being intentionally derivative of Anna Deavere Smith‘s Fires in the Mirror,👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

IndoorDame which is a great strategy for bringing catharsis to the students, but it‘s not likely to create great art. But if you‘re looking for a slice of life type piece that captures the mood of people close to the towers, this is definitely that. 12mo
