This was my #Egypt book for #ReadingAfrica2022: I gave it a good try, and it is well written, but too complex as an audiobook. It describes the rise to power of Haphepshut, a consort and regent in patriarchal ancient Egypt, who unusually became Pharoah, navigating complex gender and family roles and power conflicts. I found the core issues intriguing, as well as reading about an unfamiliar history.

From today perspective - that was really interesting look at homicide ‘traditions‘ in Ancient Rome, very interesting look at what they treated as plain murder, and what was justified violent death. Serious topic, but author managed to lighten things up with some humorous comments. #NonFiction2022 #RuleBreaker

Wonderful in concept, but lacking in execution. Ida B. Wells-Barnett is an icon for a reason. Sadly, this book about her fell flat for me. It was light on content, confusing in structure, and cluttered with many other people‘s stories. Left me wanting more Ida!
