Mary‘s recently moved to Sydney with her childhood best friend, looking for a fresh start after getting out of a bad relationship. When she welcomes a new flatmate, Rachel, Mary feels an instant connection despite the wariness of her other friends. Fast-paced & incorporating journal entries, it certainly held some surprises in the plot though they‘re not all plausible!

pickAfter finishing Mara‘s recent #BOTM pick, I wanted to check out more from Mara, so I started listening to her debut! With multiple timelines & perspectives, there were a few transitional moments where I wished I was physically reading it. But it immediately reeled me in when Sylvie, just before returning from maternity leave and woken in the night, thinks she sees a body floating in the pond next door! The neighbor‘s story emerges all with twists!

pickA good thriller, but it could have been a little bit shorter as it seemed to drag on. I really liked Anna's character, and I did sympathise with Debbie.
pickQueen of Hearts is an exceptional suspense thriller with an original protagonist who is easy to root for. The story is plotted with such precision and detail to draw the reader in that you don't realize how far until the very end and come back into the real world around you.
