Tim Walker's lovely,moving,profound collection of profiles-been gifting it to my friends!
Allegra GOodman's fantastic retelling of 'Sense and Sensibility',and skewering of tech bros is a must read.
One of my favourite Indian books to gift!Do watch the tv show adaptation-Dil Bekarar,on Hulu.

Tamora Pierce is brilliant.This quartet should be among the best-regarded in fantasy,and excellent female rep(yes,I'm looking askance at you,Ursula leGuin)
Precious Ramotswe is delightful and so human.
Tallis' detective series set in fin-de-siecle VIenna is a must-read,traces the gathering clouds of fascism.So timely.
Harry Potter.Need I say more.THere might be imitators,but there's only one,with its humour and fun

The first one helped me so much when I was ill with dengue last November, it would be perfect for a road trip too.Bill Nighy is just perfection.
The Far Pavilions soundtracked my husband's and my commute, absolutely gripping,and welldone, would work really well with a road trip!

Day 7: One of the best audiobooks I‘ve listened to in a long time. I was traveling to Florida by plane and then continued to listen to it on daily walks every morning while on vacation. It was fantastic! I loved the different voices (Benjamin Bratt?!?! 🔥🔥🔥Yes, please!!!!) and enjoyed every minute. I‘ve added some of my other favorite audiobooks (using Audible) in the comments below.

Lovely moving account of the immediate aftermath of the Russian revolution.Very autobiographical.

Made me cry when I was 9!
Visceral,always relevant account of caste in India.And a tragic love story.

Day 6: While many books have made me cry, these four broke my heart. I‘ve reread each many times (I use Splendid Suns, The Road, and Harold Fry in my classes) and they still make me cry. Powerful writing that explores the human condition and the power of connections, whether it is set in a war torn country, a postapocalyptic world, a Parisian flat, or an English roadside, will always touch our minds and souls.

Day 5: Can you guess my favorite classic novel?!?! I have used this novel to teach my students so much about humanity and the dangers of search for progress without ethical considerations. And Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley is one bad ass!!

Classics and just one?Impossible!Hard enough narrowing it down to 6!Tagged book is the first in an absolutely excellent swashbuckling historical fiction series set during the Chozha Empire(10th Century CE) in Tamil Nadu,India.Can't recommend it enough!

Day 4: To say that I loved this book and reread the whole series multiple times does not adequately explain my feelings for The Black Stallion. This is the actual book that I read as a child. I will never get rid of it. Those endpapers were the inspiration for making and exploring equine art and I credit this book for igniting my lifelong love of horses and horseback riding.
