panA pan isn't totally fair since I'm sure I missed allusions known to fans of Elizabeth Bishop, but I didn't enjoy any moment of reading this. The book's marketing is deceptive: the orphan rescue element is very minor and will disappoint readers who were intrigued by the premise of Bishop's missing weeks.
