#nbafiction2019 Did I miss something here? I‘m not sure. This book raised a number of tantalizing and mysterious situations, but then all the MC did was breastfeed her infant son and take care of her toddler daughter. Big wasted opportunity with this one.

readordierachel I don't think you're alone. Have seen a lot of similar responses to this one. I was intrigued but perhaps I'll skip it. 5y

#nbafiction2019 This short story collection was an interesting mix of the dark and gritty with the mundane. These stories center around the lives of the poor and the marginalized. The collection overall was a bit uneven with some stories not as strong as the others. 3.5⭐️

#NBAfiction2019 A collection of stories centered around Native and Hispanic women in Colorado, particularly the Denver area. All the different relationships between women within a family are explored - grandmother, mothers, sisters, cousins. Themes include absent mothers, poverty, gentrification, and the ways women can hurt themselves and others through their relationships. I wanted more variation in the stories, but still a solid collection. 4⭐️

readordierachel I totally agree about the variation. Some of these felt so similar. 5y

Great book! This explores so many topics - money, ambition, marriage, divorce, gender norms, etc. But ultimately I think this is about women. Despite the title character being male, this book has a lot to say about feminism, the promise of “having it all”, and what marriage and having children does to/for women. The ending seemed to get a little preachy to me, but otherwise this would be a 5⭐️ book. With the ending, 4.5⭐️ #NBAfiction2019

erzascarletbookgasm After such positive reviews from @Cathythoughts and you today, stacking this! 5y
Cathythoughts Yes I hear what your saying about the very ending preachy part ( v small part of book ) ... but it was 5🌟for me ... I‘ve forgotten about that part already ... 5y
merelybookish Yes! Excellent description! I am mid 40s, around the same age as Libby and Rachel, and grew up on "having it all" message and am still recovering from it . Funny like @Cathythoughts I don't even remember the ending! 5y

Cinfhen REALLY want to read this ☝🏾!!! 5y
Redwritinghood @merelybookish @Cathythoughts Maybe it‘s because I sat down and wrote my review as soon as I finished the book, so the ending was still fresh for me. I think it‘s important because you really get the gist of the book from it, but I thought it could have been done better considering how strong the rest of the book was. 5y
BarbaraBB If I weren‘t already sold after reading @merelybookish thoughts on this book, I would because of your great review! 💜 5y
merelybookish @barbarabb @cinfhen I think you'd both enjoy it! 5y
Cinfhen I‘ve preordered the paperback copy @merelybookish just 209 days to go 🤗😉 5y

Nute This is on my radar, even more so now after this nice review! 5y
thebluestocking I just finished this and loved it. The ending worked for me, but it did get preachy. I think it‘s interesting that you say the title character is male, as I think the author was playing with the tendency we have to default to the masculine. The last part of the novel is called Rachel Fleishman is in Trouble. Anyway, a very good book. 💙 5y
