When i first discovered john irving many moons ago i hoovered up his back catalogue including this very early novel which references one of his early themes - bears. A little bit of artistic licence on the meaning of 'setting'.

andrew61 @Cathythoughts it's such a long time since i read it i couldn't advise Cathy. I keep meaning to reread his books as he is a favourite author but always worry that they won't be the same as when i first read them. If you do enjoy it i may be encouraged to try it again. 7y
