Mehso-so

I've had this on my TBR for a really long time so I'm glad to finally have read it!
I always liked the movie but felt like there was something missing from it and so I was hoping that the book would give me something more but oddly enough the book read even choppier, if you can believe it.

Dialogue felt stilted at different moments, scenes were awkward in a way that weren't in the film but all in all a solid read that reminded me of why I love it

Been putting off my review of this one because I don‘t quite know what to say. It was good; I enjoyed it. Thought-provoking and left me wondering if I‘d missed some of the symbolism (no, actually - I‘m *sure* I missed some). I liked the idea of the strange world “Piranesi” inhabits and the book does a good job of contrasting the motives of the different characters who come to see him there.

Bookwomble I don't want to *spoiler* so haven't tagged it, but do you know the book that Piranasi references? 4mo
CSeydel @Bookwomble I know the one that‘s in the epigraph, if that‘s the one you mean. There are a lot of references among the statues and so on, of course (edited) 4mo
Bookwomble Yes, that's the one I was thinking of. I'd forgotten it was in the epigraph, so I'll hang up my deerstalker hat and put away my meerschaum pipe! 😄 4mo

Lesliereadsalot I loved this one! But you can skip her new little 60 page fantasy story. 4mo
CSeydel @Lesliereadsalot oh, was it not good? 4mo
CSeydel @Bookwomble hahaha, well, even though it was in the epigraph, there were definitely some Easter eggs in the story that a reader might miss if she hadn‘t read that other book in, oh, 30 years or so. In fact, I pulled it out to re-read when I finished Piranesi! 4mo
Lesliereadsalot Mostly illustrations and a beautiful cover. You can read it standing up in the bookstore. 4mo

I talked my way in to a “fantasy” exhibit at the British Library a few weeks ago and I was delighted to find that they had borrowed Susannah Clarke‘s original drawings of the halls in Piranesi. Absolutely fascinating how she planned it all out!

TrishB I went to this exhibition too- it was amazing! 12mo
Mrs_B I didn‘t realise it was on, I just happened to be passing and saw the sign. It was technically sold out but managed to talk them into squeezing me in. So glad I did!!! @TrishB (edited) 12mo

I think my reading slump is over 🎊🎉
Took long enough (October 23 to mid February 24) 😱
Think this was the longest time I've ever gone without reading.

4½✨

Such a strange, unique, brilliant little story.
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I sent with Piranesi.

Will be on the lookout for Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
