majkia I well remember how shocked I was when I first read this chapter. I may have thrown my book against a wall... (a fib. I was reading an ebook. but I was tempted!) 2mo

Sargar114 @5feet.of.fury same! I remember having to re-read it when I first read the book because I couldn‘t believe it was happening. 2mo
5feet.of.fury @Sargar114 the worst cliffhanger! And he was about to do so much! 2mo
majkia @Sargar114 really... 2mo
BethM @majkia @Sargar114 @5feet.of.fury all I have to say is he damn well better keep the resurrection from the show. 2mo

Discussions with Tormund start off rough, but they come to terms. In 3 days the 4000 wildlings will come through the gate
Val offers to play the role of Princess &help Jon. They go to Queen Selyse, who is displeased at the compromise. Shireen‘s greyscale upsets Val, she wants the baby moved away from Shireen, calling her the dead girl
Many of the Brothers do not support Jon‘s plan
He remembers again the prophecy

BethM I liked his sass- where is it that we defend the king‘s land 3mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM same. He‘s had some good comebacks the past 2 chapters. We haven‘t seen the white walkers lately and everyone else seems to be forgetting about the threat 3mo

Jon meets Queen Selyse, Princess Shireen &Tycho from the Iron Bank. Selyse demands to stay at Nightfort feeling Eastwatch will be attacked &unsafe for Shireen
Tycho tells Jon that Lannisters have stopped making payments, the debt is owned by the Iron Throne &whoever sits on it. Jon makes a deal for Tycho‘s ships &gold to feed men until spring
Ser Axell asks to see Val
A highborn girl arrives on a dying horse. His hopes build as he thinks of Arya..

5feet.of.fury But we are treated to some Karstark drama, I like Alys though… 3mo
BethM Good chapter, kept it moving. But yet another subplot 😂 3mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM agree, I liked it, but we have so little book left & so many random plot threads. 3mo
Roary47 Man. I was really hoping it would have been Arya. 😭 3mo

The Wall will run out of food if they have to keep feeding Stannis‘s men &wildlings. Jon has no immediate solution so they cut back rations. Rattleshirt has been bound to Melisandre. Jon advises on battleplans, he draws the line at arming them. Stannis again implores Jon to take his fathers name &Winterfell. He declines. Jon send Stannis to the mountain clans for more men &after the ironmen at Deepwood Motte. Wildlings will stay at the Wall.

Mance is brought forth, Jon‘s pleas for his life have been unheeded. Mance, along with the horn, is burned. Stannis &Melisandre make a show of power to the Freefolk, enticing them to “come in to the light”. Most do, though some run for the woods.
Later, Jon admires Val &reflects that he could have had her, Winterfell &his fathers name. He makes his rounds. Climbs into bed thinking this will be his lot until the end of his days.

BethM Poor Jon. Have dinner with your friends dude. It makes you a better leader. Men 🤦‍♀️ 4mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM I know, he seems to think it‘s all or nothing. 4mo
Roary47 @BethM @5feet.of.fury I‘m really concerned for Jon and the nights watch. Stannis and his red queen seem really dangerous along with the wildings that she had burn parts of the old gods. 4mo

Gilly comes to see Jon, he talks to her about Dalla &Mance‘s son. She begs Jon to save him, he says he can‘t but that SHE can. She cries that she will take both, but Jon says that won‘t work. He promises if Dalla‘s boy burns, her son will die too
He speaks with Sam, Sam &Aemon are being sent South as well while he repeats a mantra inspired by Aemon
He commands Slynt to Greyguard where wildlings climbed the Wall. Slynt refuses. Jon takes his head.

5feet.of.fury I really don‘t know what I thought could have been achieved with this chapter, but I expected more than this. 4mo
majkia Well, rehashing events that have already happened and explaining about the switch of the babies in case someone missed that, I guess. 4mo
See All 10 Comments
5feet.of.fury @majkia when we found out about the babies I was like “I‘m sure Jon has some plan to protect the baby, or some reason he felt forced” but clearly he does not, he did it because Maester Aemon told him to “let the man be born” …that wasn‘t really enough for me lol 4mo
majkia @5feet.of.fury He was taking away Stannis's opportunity to burn someone with royal blood. Mance, the baby's father, apparently would be considered royal. 4mo
5feet.of.fury @majkia I know but if they think Gilly‘s baby is Mance‘s baby… it doesn‘t stop Melisandre 🫤 I am CONCERNED 4mo
BethM @5feet.of.fury his little speech to Gilly made me feel like he‘ll be all gotcha! If they try to burn the kid. Also the kid is sickly, it may not live anyway. I for one was cheering at the end of this chapter. Off with his head! 4mo
Sargar114 @BethM the end was great! And it honored Ned in a way, so I was good with it. The rehashing of the convo with Sam seemed unnecessary but I‘m glad we got the conversation with Gilly even though we already knew what happened, at least it was different. @5feet.of.fury I think the idea is Jon will let em know it‘s not Mance‘s kid by the time it gets to the burning part 🤷🏼‍♀️ 4mo
5feet.of.fury @majkia @BethM @Sargar114 I don‘t know what else I wanted to happen honestly. Did love that last part though. 4mo
