This is a really interesting and odd little book. Amane lives in a near future Japan where conception takes place solely by artificial insemination and sex is no longer considered civilised. The family unit is also being revolutionised as living alone may just be more convenient. Its a fascinating concept and as Amane is one of very few still having sex she deeply questions her morality. ⬇️

Centique There were a couple of scenes near the end that confused me and made me cringe but I wont be forgetting this book anytime soon. Ive seen people post that they wanted to throw this across the room - so you‘re forewarned! 4d

I was really looking forward to this, but it's suffocatingly heavy on the astrology. Which is a shame because the premise and the cats were delightful!

TieDyeDude Welcome to Litsy! I use Canva or another app to create images before posting, so I don't have to mess with Litsy's photo editor 😉 (edited) 5d
Mayhawke @TieDyeDude Hi, thank you, that's probably a good idea. I think it's possibly because I don't have the app (can't get it on Android, atm). For some reason Litsy is now posting my pics at a 90 degree switch from how they were taken. I'm going to try uploading from the PC, and see how that goes 😁

TieDyeDude Yeah, my understanding is that when LibraryThing acquired Litsy, there was some issue with obtaining the code for the app. Since Litsy is more of a side project for them, they've basically given up on the app and are just focusing on the site. I had the app until a few weeks ago when we got new phones 😩 3d

This has Before The Coffee Gets Cold vibes, and I was finding it mildly enjoyable, and then the third of the three chapters came along and hit me in the feels.

Schwifty Niiiiiiice. Seriously, Ryu Murakami writes novels with some disturbingly graphic twists. 1mo

I loved Convenience Store Woman and I keep reading Murata for that reason, and each book gets further away from what I liked. This one was repetitive and oddly written. The plot seems like it's trying hard to be weird, but it didn't seem to have a point? Like, I'm not sure what the message was, which is odd for a book that seems to be a societal critique. Maybe I'm not familiar enough with Japanese culture. The dust jacket made me want king cake.

Obsessed. I feel like I need to reread this book again, immediately, because I sped through it because I loved it but I‘m sure I missed some things. It leaves you with a choked up feeling, one of pain and beauty. N.P. and Kitchen are masterpieces.
