👋🏼 Hi to all the Aussies on here! Happy #AustraliaDay! In light of Australia's colonial history, I compiled some books by Aboriginal authors for those interested in learning more about its indigenous stories and voices. I haven't read many of them since they aren't as widely available in the US, but I am changing that this year. ✊🏽

Any more great Australian #AboriginalBooks you recommend? I'd love more suggestions.

slategreyskies I love The Bone People! Keri Hulme is such a creative and expressive writer. I could read this book over and over again. :) 8y
MrsMalaprop Hi from Western Australia 😊. I have a beautiful Nyoongar (Aboriginal People of the south west of WA) son ❤. I've read quite a few books by Australian Aboriginal authors including Am I Black Enough (pictured here). Carpentaria by Alexis Wright is another and I recently posted about Anita Heiss's book of poetry I'm Not Racist But. Heiss compiled an anthology of Australian Aboriginal literature too. That Deadman Dance by Kim Scott is another 👍. 8y
BookishFeminist @SMW Oh I ran across That Deadman Dance when looking up books and didn't have enough room in the collage. 😂 These are all fantastic recommendations, thank you! I'm looking forward to reading all of them. 8y

BookishFeminist @slategreyskies She's such a wonderful writer. I wish she had more fiction! But alas. 8y
LeeRHarry The Tall Man is fantastic 😍 and I really need to read some Anita Heiss! I have had The Bone People on my shelf for years but still haven't got to it! Another good NZ Maori fiction writer is Witi Ihimaera - Whale Rider 💕 8y
Jae Blood by Tony Birch; Not Quite Men,No Longer Boys by K.C. Laughton; Heat and Light by Ellen van Neerven. We've struggled through yet another Invasion Day. Good news is that the debate about changing the date and purpose of the event is now very public. Great hopes for the future! 8y
Nebklvr Loved The Bone People 8y
Gillyreads Alexis Wright is one of my favourite authors, highly recommend anything she's written. 8y
