Mehso-so

Between a pick and a so-so. An easy read and I enjoyed the beginning of the book and characters. The mystery/suspect didn‘t come in until the second half of the novel and I found it predictable. I might pick up the next one in the series, we‘ll see.

I live in an area with many Mennonites and Amish. Like this novel, we‘ve had recent news stories of sexual abuse in those communities. It‘s that connection which prompted me to read this, although the novel deals with the emotional and practical aftermath rather than events themselves. Moving and thought-provoking. See @Blaire ‘s review also.

Cinfhen I thought this book was really powerful ~ 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Me too. And the book I read after was an equally powerful and contrasting book. 5y
Booksnchill This was a 5⭐️ for me last year. A powerful story told sparingly. 5y

alisiakae That‘s the same reason why I want to read this one (even though I don‘t live there anymore). 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Booksnchill I didn‘t love it quite that much, but it was definitely a strong read. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft I‘ll be curious for your thoughts, once you get to it. 5y

Back to this audiobook, now that we‘re home from vacation. I never can listen when traveling. So ... I‘m looking forward to digging into this. We live in an area with many Amish and Mennonite families, so this feels relevant.

@Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft

alisiakae How did I not know the characters in this are Mennonite? Bumping higher on my TBR! My grandmother‘s family are all Mennonite - she converted to Lutheran when she married my grandfather. My great-uncle was almost disowned by their parents when be broke from Mennonite pacifist traditions and joined the military during WWII. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft Yes, you‘ll want to read this. Although it‘s not the pleasant side of Mennonites. 5y

I loved this book about a fashion stylist & provocative personality.She did a lot to help designers get noticed but was her own worst enemy at times, like when she spent the whole year‘s budget for photo shoots on one project.Despite her talent , her career never found sure footing, & her struggles with depression were difficult.Sadly ,she took her own life.She would seek treatment, feel better,leave.

Suet624 That‘s so sad. 5y

I think I enjoyed this more than The Handmaid‘s Tale. I loved the writing and the style and the way it went between different perspectives. There was a sense of vindication and a lot of suspense and excitement in this. I am a huge fan of the tv show that is on right now and I was really happy that this occurs much after what has happened in the show. I loved this one! #booked2020 #hatorheadcoveringoncover

BarbaraTheBibliophage Perfect pick for this prompt! ♥️📚👊🏻 5y
