Rounding out my top 10 is the last book I read in 2023
I love the hard science, and the humor.
And this is why I wait for the last moment to pick my top books of the year!!
I LOVED this book! Yes things were a bit too convenient from time to time, but I completely feel for Grace, Rocky, and even the rock hard emotionless get it done Stratt.
This book was so funny, and unlike other "lit" books it doesn't over explain STEM to the reader so the reading experience is more pleasant.

Never when I picked up this book did I think I would learn so much about Carly Rae Jessen, The Fallout Boys, or growning up in Ohio. Abdurraquib has a wide chasm of interests and his essays take you to unexpected places. I highly recommend his updated anniversary edition that gives reflections to essays he wrote years ago.
I liked this so much I have picked up a couple more of Adburraquib's books for next year.

I love books that bring to light powerful, change-bringing women that I did not previously know (Phoolan Devi). In this way this book reminds me of In The Time of Butterflies, and is one that will stick with me for years to come.
I loved the multi-layed look at Geeta's life, the community loan she is in, the other women of the loan, and how each treat the other. At it's core this is about community and not being a victim.

A Black YA take on Carrie. It is so much more than the Carrie of my youth, Jackson is a phenomenon. Every book she puts out is more spectacular than I could hope for, and Weight of Blood blew me away.
The only YA to make my top 10 this year.
I absolutley love this novel.
A woman trying to be absolutly perfect for her husband who she is obsessed over.
My recent favorite genre of books is women slowly falling apart due to an obsession, and this book showed it perfectly. The vibes in this are imaculate.
I will be keeping an eye our for more from Ventura.

I love this image at the bottom left corner by Abbey Lossing from a Conde Nast article about women travlers.
This book makes me think of traveling, and searching, and of people sitting around a fire telling stories.
The book is filled with storeis, some interlocking, some we keep coming back to, some we just get a glance at. I can see how some didn't like it - it can feel a bit disjointed, but if you are a traveler who dips in and out of areas
