Mx. Justin Vivian Bond is one of the recipients of the 2024 MacArthur Fellowship (i.e. Genius Grant). I first became aware of Bond from the movie Shortbus. The song is slightly NSFW (suggestive lyrics). The movie is extremely NSFW, but beautiful.

Mike Angeli is just trying to find where he belongs as he grows up. Then he finds his university‘s drag group.

This was charming. The poetry really worked for this coming of age story, while also examining identity through a mixed race and queer lens. That feeling of not being enough for any group. Atta‘s narration didn‘t really work for me, but the story as a whole was powerful and sweet. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Black Flamingo | Dean Atta

A vivid, satisfying coming of age story about a gay, mixed-race English boy building his identity. I'm not a fan of novels “in verse“ that really aren't, but this was so readable I liked it anyway... and there are some excellent poems included.

A thorough and interesting history of drag in New York City. The audio narration was well done.

julesG @AnnCrystal Beer Steins are excellent for keeping bookmarks in, or pens, or kitchen utensils. 😉 I don't have any at the moment, but my parents have several around the house and not a single one has been used for beer ever. 5mo

julesG @AnnCrystal I never thought they were something special because they were regular household items. Although my parents managed to snag a few collector's items while my father worked for a small company that produced mugs and steins. 5mo

TieDyeDude @julesG The beer was quite good! My wife is not a fan of smoked flavors, so I had it saved for a time I could drink it alone :)
@anncrystal I've had a couple steins, but they rarely make the cut when I move (this one is from the PA Renaissance Faire). I love the look of them, though. This one is a little less bulky, so I've held on to it. @julesG They are not super common here, so they are mostly considered collector's items, though 4mo

I loved this more than expected. Character driven, a true coming of age story. Readers learn to love Michael as he learns who he is and to love himself.
