so-soI apparently bought this in 2014 so it‘s taken a while for me to get to it but thought it would be my ancient option for #booked22 I am. It going to lie this is an odd little book. Beautiful lyrical story telling and language but perhaps a little too out there are literary for me. I am a tad confused by the ending !

This novel abt 2 sisters is a retelling of the ovid metamorphosis tale of iphis, a mother prays to the gods to hide her daughter from a husband who will her the child if it is not a boy. Touching on corporations who monetise water, environmental protest, and fluid sexuality this is told with Ali Smith's usual style that I love + was an interesting introduction the myth.
Pausing my other current reads for this slim volume.... Unbelievably I've never read any Ali Smith before!
pickAn ex-insurance claim investigator seeks justice in a post-apocalyptic society ruled by the Clan, whose behaviour and personalities are patterned after the Norse gods.
I enjoyed it and I would probably have done so even more if I'd known more about Norse mythology because I suspect there were some parallels I was missing.
