Bailedbailed

This book is complete trash. I have no idea how explaining what a metaphor is constitutes a prompt. The author doesn‘t seem to know the difference between red and pink. She starts out strong by including popular poems as examples, but a third of the way through, apparently there weren‘t anymore poems left, since she used only her own poems as examples. I will never be reading any of her poetry collections based on the rubbish in this book. 👇🏻

GingerAntics The final straw for me was going to the limericks section (since St. Patrick‘s Day is coming up) and all of the cultural stereotypes that existed. Wayne clearly knows nothing about the history of limericks or that every English speaking human on the planet knows plenty of limericks. The suggestion that the best way for adults to get past the “scary” nature of limericks (yes nursery rhymes are notoriously terrifying), is to drink. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 4y
GingerAntics Wayne should stick with her romantic comedies (based on the way she wrote her bio, they‘re cheesy and nauseating), and leave poetry to people who know what they‘re doing. I wouldn‘t recommend an email this author wrote, let along anything more substantial. 4y
GingerAntics If you want to read about poetry like you have a brain in your head (instead of fluffy or giggles) I suggest Mary Oliver‘s A Poetry Handbook instead. #BrookeEWayne #ComeWriteWithMePoetry #OverIt #NotHappening (edited) 4y
TiminCalifornia Edward Hirsch‘s “How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love with Poetry” is another good one. No writing prompts though. Thanks for a valuable review. 4y
GingerAntics @TiminCalifornia I‘m more focused on writing poetry right now, but that sounds like something I‘d enjoy exploring after March. 4y

Because no one has ever heard of “Hickory Dickory Dock,” “Little Miss Muffet,” “Jack and Jill Went Up The Hill,” or even “There Was an Old Man from Nantucket,” we have to have this sappy... I don‘t even know what to call this. Was she drinking (as she suggested - liquid courage and all) when she wrote this?

Wow, it wasn‘t funny the first time, but she‘s really committed to this cultural stereotype. Maybe next she can write a poem about Irish twins, how Irish people are lazy, or how St. Patrick‘s Day is a white supremacist holiday (the internet is truly an idiotic place). (In the words of #AgnesBrowne - feckin egit!)

GingerAntics @rabbitprincess you might like some of these as well. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I‘m on a roll tonight with this crazy woman. 😭 4y
rabbitprincess My eye is twitching at that apostrophe after “ye” 😑 4y
GingerAntics @rabbitprincess right? The writing is cheesy, the author uses words and doesn‘t seem to know they are fully words, there is stereotyping. I just couldn‘t anymore. Plus, her approach to writing limericks isn‘t to write a Limerick, it‘s to back door it so it‘s easier. IT‘S A BLOODY NURSERY RHYME!!! IT‘S NOT BLOODY HARD!!! 🤬🤬🤬 This book just enrages me. 4y

For feck sake!!! Yes, because, as we all know, NURSERY RHYMES are just terrifying beyond belief. That‘s why children aren‘t allowed to bloody well hear nursery rhymes.

GingerAntics @rabbitprincess I‘ve got some more funny hashtags for ya on this one 😏 (edited) 4y
rabbitprincess 😆 thanks for the tags! This sounds like a terrible book. 4y
GingerAntics @rabbitprincess 😂 coming up with good tags for it was the only real good part. It‘s labelled “for teens and adults.” As an adult, I found this book it be useless and cheesy. I work with teenagers, no way this would do anything but make them hate poetry. 4y

I‘m not sure I trust someone who thinks something can be as red as bubblegum or as red as a flamingo. Pink is a totally different color. It‘s like saying emerald is a word for blue, or orange is a word for yellow (or red conceivably, which she didn‘t do, she gave orange it‘s only bloody column). Oy

rabbitprincess Ahaha that last hashtag 🤣 4y

I have long since read that in Celtic/Irish society the bards were the historians, musicians, and poets. Well, I‘m a historian and a musician, so I thought for St. Patrick‘s Day (March, really), I would learn a little about writing poetry. I can‘t wait to see what kind of rubbish I can come up with in the next 31 days with this bad boy. 😂🤣😂

GingerAntics I don‘t think this is going to count for #Joetry2021. Sorry, @CBee @Chrissyreadit 4y
Chrissyreadit Nice project! 4y
CBee @GingerAntics you‘re a musician?? That‘s fab! What do you play? I‘m a former musician - piano. 4y

GingerAntics @CBee I‘m an over achiever by nature. I played the piano, guitar, drum set (my absolute favourite), some auxiliary percussion, clarinet, trumpet, violin and mandolin (which, fun fact, has the same fingerboard layout at a violin)...I think that‘s everything. lol I played snare in a pipes and drums band for a little bit in college. I would love to take up the Bodhran, just because it looks cool and has such a dynamic sound for being a single drum. 4y
GingerAntics @CBee I used to write rock songs with a few friends of mine, and I have a knack for changing the words to songs to make them totally relevant to the artist and make people laugh, so *in theory* I should be able to write poetry, but...*in theory* is the operative phrase. I always feel like I‘m better composing the music. The words sort of happen later for me. (edited) 4y
CBee @GingerAntics well, lyrics are poetry in a sense. You‘ve played so many instruments!! I‘ve not heard of the Bodhran, I‘ll have to look that up. I‘ve got to get back into music - I miss it so ♥️ 4y
GingerAntics @CBee once a musician, always a musician! I haven‘t had instalments in SO long. I mostly play/create music on my iPad at the moment. A Bodhran is a wide, shallow drum. The cool thing about it is that it‘s played with a short, single stick, but you use both ends sort of. You use the hand of the other than to change the pitch of the drum by sliding your hand along the back of the head. 4y
CBee @GingerAntics that sounds amazing! I wonder if it‘s hard to learn. Funny story about me - I tried out for band in middle school and wanted to play the clarinet so badly. I tried out better on the clarinet than the drums, so those were my two choices. I got to learn clarinet 😁 because my drum try out was awful 😂 (edited) 4y
CBee @GingerAntics I‘ve always had great rhythm, but getting my hands and feet to work together in sync? No go 😂 Hence why I never could play the pedals on the organ 😁 4y
GingerAntics @CBee yeah, getting that four-way coordination takes A LOT of practice. If you can drive a stick shift, you can learn to get your hands and feet in and out of sync on command. It just takes a lot of patience and repetition. 4y
CBee @GingerAntics I can‘t drive stick either 😂😂 4y
GingerAntics @CBee 😂🤣😂 okay, maybe not then. 4y
CBee @GingerAntics hopeless cause over here 😂😂 at least when it comes to coordinating my hands and feet properly to play drums or organ 😁 4y
GingerAntics @CBee the whole feet thing with the organ absolutely blows my mind. I‘ve seen it done up close by a student in college, but oh my god I can‘t even begin to figure that out. Plus, you need special shoes. 4y
CBee @GingerAntics it‘s super hard. I finally stopped taking lessons because I just couldn‘t get it 🤷‍♀️ 4y
GingerAntics @CBee oh, you were actually taking organ lessons? Yeah, then I‘m sure you‘ve tried all kinds of things to get your feet to do their own thing. 4y
CBee @GingerAntics years ago, yep. I just never could get my feet to coordinate with my hands 🤷‍♀️ 4y
GingerAntics @CBee that‘s frustrating 4y
CBee @GingerAntics no worries. I got over it 🤷‍♀️😂 4y
GingerAntics @CBee 🤣😂🤣 4y
