Hey all!! One of my goals for the year was to read more banned books so I decided to start #bannedbooksunday and will be sharing a new banned book each week with why it was banned. This week and next I'll share 2 books. Book #1 this week is "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie. Banned due to profanity, violence and situations deemed sexually explicit.

pickNot being a MiddleGrade student, it‘s probably unfair of me to rate, so let‘s call it a low pick. Born a girl but uncomfortable with culture messages of what she *should* be interested in, Bug is also mourning her recently deceased Uncle (who might be haunting her!) I could identify with the confusion of being told “just be yourself!” But WHO is YOU when you don‘t know what you feel and are uncomfortable in your own skin? #BannedBook #Transgender
pickThis is such an important book, for abused kids, for trans kids, for kids in general - because let‘s be honest, people are constantly trying to just shut kids up and keep them from speaking truth to power. Of course that power and those who are power hungry are trying to silence this, too.

pickThis year is the 50th anniversary since Jaws was first published. The story still holds up after all this time. We‘re unfortunately still asking what‘s more important: human lives or money?

So, I had made a mistake on my #BookSpinBingo and actually, my #BookSpin book is a #BannedBook.
I did a quick Google and Libby search and found this one ready for download. Also needed a new #AudioCommute. So here it is. It's a super quick book. Probably finish it tomorrow on my commute to and from work.
pickThis is a great memoir. I feel such sadness for those of you out there who feel uncomfortable with presenting yourself as is. Some of the panels talked about not staying up for yourself because you didn't want to seem rude. Ugh! That speaks to me. Please all know #YouAreSafeWithMe and please #StandUp

pickThis #bannedbook was lovely and meaningful. In this thoughtful graphic novel, the author explores the experiences of a kid who sees themself as different and is struggling with the labels others are putting on them. The boy scout camp setting offers the perfect backdrop and brought back memories of when my son was immersed in the Scout community, luckily his seemed more inclusive than most. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #bookriotchallenge
Well Florida has finally lost it. It has banned over 1,600 books including several dictionaries. The reason for banning the dictionaries is because, they contain “Sexual Content”. The list of banned books is in the link below ⬇️ 📚📖
