What does your #24B4Monday #BannedBooksEdition weekend stack look like?

Here are the books that I‘ll be choosing from. Some are #bannedbooks, some are #librarybooks, some are motivation for the #bookfitnesschallenge, some are current #audiobooks that I‘ve already got on the go, and one is personal research for work.

My goals: to finish at least 2 of these, and to read for a total of 5 hours. I‘m low-balling cause I work all weekend.

Clwojick Oh yeah, and one is a reread, and 2 would be from #MountTBR 6y
BeansPage Looks good girl 👍😃👍 6y
Andrew65 Good luck with the Readathon. 👍😊 6y
Recommended4Reading Which book is for work research? 6y
Clwojick @Recommended4Reading I just started working at an addiction center, so I‘m reading The Recovery just for added insight. 6y

With Memorial Day giving me a four day weekend off, these are the #BannedBooks I‘d like to get read through week 4 of #MayMadness and the #24B4MONDAY readathon. There‘s a possibility that Of Mice and Men, and A Clockwork Orange will join the party depending on how much progress I make.

Andrew65 Love this book, a quick but impactful read. 6y

marleed I read Lord of the Flies as a 7th grader and before video or cable networks geared for youth. At the time I thought it shocking and it greatly impacted my caution of group-think. 6y
Andrew65 @marleed It is a seminal piece of work. 6y
marleed @Andrew65 i wonder if it would have the same impact to a 13 yr old today since many are exposed to violence through technology and games avail today. 6y
SconsinBookyBadger @Andrew65 what I‘ve learned is that AWIT was banned or challenged for promoting occult/witchcraft/New Age beliefs, the inclusion of Buddha, Einstein and other figures alongside Jesus undermines the Christian faith, and that the author mixes science and religion. (edited) 6y

#hellothursday #bannedbooksedition @wanderinglynn
1️⃣ One of the most famous, and it's so boring, guys!
2️⃣ Probably not.
3️⃣ Don't keep track of what's banned in the US.
4️⃣ It happens less in Canada, more rarely in schools, more often at the border upon importation. I think it's wrong. The Index Librorum Prohibitorum was revoked in 1966! Get with the times! Restricting access *may* be called for, but I think it should be on a kid by kid basis.

wanderinglynn Thanks for playing! 👍🏻📚 6y

#helloThursday #bannedbooksedition
1️⃣ Too many to pick a favorite
2️⃣ currently reading the tagged book because it‘s on #GAR and a school district actually burned it (WTH?)
3️⃣ Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi (it‘s on my TBR for this year though!)
4️⃣ Utterly ridiculous and shameful.

alisiakae Persepolis is really good! 6y
SexyCajun Can someone please help me with this. Who is doing the banning? Is it just a particular school or library? Whole countries? I tried to read more about it but getting vague descriptions 6y
wanderinglynn Thanks for playing! 👍🏻📚 6y

wanderinglynn @SexyCajun In the U.S., it‘s done more locally—it‘s school districts, it‘s libraries, it‘s communities. It happens a lot in the U.S. but it happens in other countries too. But in the U.S., there‘s not been nation-wide banning/censoring. 6y
TrishB It‘s very rare in U.K. that I‘m aware of now. 🤷‍♀️ 6y
SexyCajun @wanderinglynn thanks 😊 That book I read The Witches was banned in England. I read why it was banned but I have no idea if it‘s still banned as of now. The reason was surely funny ! 6y
rwmg Apparently certain libraries refused to stock it because they considered it misogynistic. @SexyCajun 6y
DGRachel @SexyCajun I am often baffled by the reasons books are challenged or banned. Censorship/book banning/book burning drives me insane, though. I hate being told what I can or cannot read and it just makes me want to see what all the fuss is about. 😂 6y
SexyCajun @rwmg lol 😂. Yes because only women can be witches says the book 🤷🏼‍♀️😂. In the book that‘s true but who cares and the book is so funny! 6y
