My #AuldLangSpine list is short but sweet. I have read two: The Marriage Portrait and The Four Winds. I can get the tagged book on Libby so will start there.

Thanks for an interesting list with several new to me titles @LapReader

Appreciate your work on my most favorite New Year‘s swap. @monalyisha

My favourite of Kate‘s books yet. Only my second actually. She is an Australian author. This was my school holiday read I forgot to post. I was at my sister‘s place 50 km from the nearest town, enjoying this beautiful book and some quiet time then the niece got in with me and everyone out in the garden came to the window to chat #noonecaresinthecountry Last time I visited I was sick with Influenza A so it was much nicer this time. Not freezing.

Saw the 1971 film first, before immediately rifling through my bookstore‘s paperback section to find the 1961 novel. A young schoolteacher, in Australia‘s bleak western deserts, stops through the mining town of Bundanyabba for a night, on his way to Sydney. Little does he know that he will soon lose his train ticket out, as well as all of his money, dignity and sanity as he descends into a weekend of dark depravity. “Welcome to the ‘Yabba, mate!”

Little Free Library finds these holidays. The top book will be given to my niece.

Jeg The bottom two are great reads. 2mo

Another perfect day for reading outside . Lucky yet again to find this in an op shop for $2. Published in 2011 , it took me to a country town in West Aust and to Sydney and around the Quay with the Opera House and the Bridge. It follows 4very different characters who visit the Quay , their thoughts , their stories . The writing is superb. 🤞I find more of her earlier works.

Suet624 I love the cover. 2mo

I have enjoyed Trent Daltons books and this was good but not as enjoyable. I felt like his detail about every little description of rocks, dirt and forest was too descriptive! It was a good story and a had some beautiful and sad moments. Worth a read but not his best.

We have a shop here that sells library discards and other second hand books. Money goes to the Para quads. It is next to a Para quad op shop. It‘s a great place for book lovers and not too far from where we live. I was so happy to find these two books. The tagged book by amazing Aussie author who died way too young. Other was a favourite of my mums. . It will join my TBR shelf.

I thought I was going to return this to the library unfinished - I found the beginning of Elizabeth's marriage terribly depressing. I'm so glad I gave it one more shot! It turned out to be absolutely beautiful and comforting and challenging and I loved it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2

Jeg I loved it too. 4mo
