pickIt's been a while since I was in the parisian world of commisaire Adamsberg, the enigmatic parisian detective who relies on his intuition. In this one, a crime from his childhood obsesses him with murder by stabbing with a trident. The plot takes him to Ottawa, where crimes follow him. Enjoyable series 3* and will read next at some point.
pickA woman has apparently died by suicide, though the police commisaire suspects murder. Then a man connected to her also dies by suicide or murder, setting off a story with connections to Iceland and Robespierre. This is a slow to develop mystery that leans into the cerebral. A low pick for me; my mom wasn‘t a fan.
pickMy reading while my son had a surgical procedure today. Very clever plot. The first in the popular French series. I enjoyed it but translation was a bit clumsy in spots- maybe that is intentional. I would read another in this series!
I used to read a lot of Fred Vargas' books and for a time forgot I liked her style. Adamsberg is a strange kind of policeman that you can not forget... I'm glad the library had it in epub format.
pickThree old men die in quick succession, apparently bitten by poisonous spiders. But the bites are rarely if ever fatal so is there something more sinister going on?
I found some of the psychological musings most unlikely (arachnophobia has its origin in childhood sexual abuse, seriously?) but despite that I did manage to finger the culprit fairly early on.
