This fictional “Nonfiction Account of An American Crime” is a creepy, snake-filled classic in which victims receive small wooden coffins from an unknown craftsman-killer. Agent Jake Pepper (likely a mixture of various investigators Capote met) attempts to make sense of this “rats‘ maze of a case.” Reread this novella (assigned to me by my MFA prof back in the day) for the Scarathlon prompt. #coffin #Scarathlon #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall #20points

Gothic & twisty with nods to Shirley Jackson & Daphne du Maurier, this thriller is an enjoyable ride. The crumbling mansion is a character in itself, which not every reader loves, but I do. Final twist hits the mark. Good narration. #Gothic #spooky #thriller #Scarathlon #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall #audiobook #20points
