I finally finished my audio and that‘s not because of the books, I just have long periods when I don‘t listen to audio (and podcasts).

In this second book about grandma and the eight kids, the family has moved out of the city and into a house in the forest. Grandma gets her own room. During a play with the kids, grandma suddenly starts a business selling waffles since people passing actually thinks the delicious smelling waffles are for sale.

The sales pitch for this book could be “Perfect for Bedtime!”

1. Interesting enough to keep your attention
2. Boring enough you begin to feel drowsy
3. No temptation to read “just one more page”

In all seriousness, this is quite an approachable book on Roman Britain, a time period I knew absolutely nothing about. The only prior knowledge I had was Bryson stumbling across a mosaic in Notes from a Small Island. Britain may have been an outpost ⬇️

As in any book of essays I ended up skimming some, but the ones that caught me really drew me in. My particular favorites were on Hawaii, migraines, Malibu, okeefe, and relationships. She has a particular way of capturing human experience and is a keen observer of culture and the way people think. Oh man. I finished this last week, but I've been too busy to post a review! I started a new special education course at school and it is very time consuming. Anyway, I really do love this book. However, it does feel very disjointed to me. There are too many storylines, which King did a lot of in his early work. Either way, not my favorite but not the worst. #epicstephenkingreread #book8 #1979
