A re-re-reread (with a few more re‘s) of this Heyer mystery set in a small British village. I love the small cast of unique characters. Mrs. M with her “U” named pekes, the rascally, aged ex-poacher, the whole enthusiastic Ditchling brood, so many that make this a humorous read - and the mystery is good too! Who shot Sampson Warrenby in his garden? No one has an alibi…

This is a light pick for me—I got the overall gist of the story, but sometimes struggled with what exactly was going on. Dystopian is not my typical genre, but given its ties to current day issues, I knew I had to read this with the #RandomClassics group. I am glad I read it. #192025 #1953

It‘s been years since I read this one, and it was interesting to reread and see what I remembered. (I did forget whodunit) I enjoyed having all the super sleuths in one book!

Naturally a book about Jane and Prudence. Jane is a 40 something vicar‘s wife who doesn‘t behave as your stereotypical vicar‘s wife and tend to say the wrong thing. Prudence is in her late 20s and enjoying her love affairs. Two friends with not much in common.

I just love Pym‘s snarkiness and wit and her writing that‘s just to the point.

Bookout bug! If you “pause” the timer stops on the screen—but it still adds the paused time. Yesterday I read 121 pages at 70+ pages/hour. Today I utilized “pause”. This book actually took me about 3 hours. It was very quick and quite misogynistic—not that that surprised me. From page 159: “the conquest of her body, because of the central privacy in her, would each time have the sweet tang of rape.” WTF “sweet tang”. 😡 #1001books #192019 #1953
