This one is short but I have a feeling many tears will be shed.
Everyone listens to this podcast, right? I love it so much! My TBR overflows after every ep.
An impressive, confident debut collection of stories that in the main explore how the 1947 partition of India was wrought upon the bodies of women on both sides of that divide. I question whether a novel with a smaller number of fully-developed characters might have avoided the ‘tragedy porn‘ feeling that crept up for me a few times, but no matter: the strongest of these stories has made me eagerly look forward to Rao‘s imminent debut novel!
I read both of these books for the Anna and Eric book club and I made a #booktube video about them in late September. https://youtu.be/5WPz1JmOHNk. Although I enjoyed both, AN UNRESTORED WOMAN was definitely my favorite. Through linked short stories, Rao explores violence against women and the response to trauma, often against the backdrop of the India/Pakistan Partition. Multiple viewpoints. Trigger warnings galore, but powerful stuff.
Hoping to make my way thru this giant pile o' books for the new month!! I'll be on bedrest for lots of it during treatments so hopefully it won't be too difficult to tackle this TBR!! Does anyone know if there are any readathon events during this month??

I'm supposed to read a book by an author with my initials for a reading challenge, and this is the only book I could find.
I found only few reviews on it and they were mostly good.
Has anyone read it? What are your thoughts?
This is fantastic. I love story collections told from a range of perspectives and this does that brilliantly. So beautifully written and so powerful.
#ReadHarder challenge 2: a collection of stories by a woman
Amazing collection of paired stories. Gut-wrenching, sad, hopeful, real. How the India / Pakistan Partition affected the lives of ordinary people -- especially of women. Unforgettable.
This was so devastating, heartbreaking, yet also beautiful. Filled with paired short stories featuring the lives impacted during the India/Pakistan Partition of 1947, this one will stay with me for a long time.
Killer book. Recommend to me by my wife months ago and I only got round to it now. Stories that kaleidoscopically build throughput the length of the book.
I was hand sold this book at the Bay Area Book Fest and it's paired stories. And it has sad stuff. FYI
12 paired stories with a foundation in India, Pakistan, & the Partition. How lives were and still are affected by larger political events. From Amy Einhorn & Flatiron Books
