Brian Staveley's The Providence of Fire, the second novel in the Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne, a gripping new epic fantasy series. The conspiracy to destroy the ruling family of the Annurian Empire is far from over.Having learned the identity of her father's assassin, Adare flees the Dawn Palace in search of allies to challenge the coup against her family. Few trust her, but when she is believed to be touched by Intarra, patron goddess of the empire, the people rally to help her retake the capital city. As armies prepare to clash, the threat of invasion from barbarian hordes compels the rival forces to unite against their common enemy.Unknown to Adare, her brother Valyn, renegade member of the empire's most elite fighting force, has allied with the invading nomads. The terrible choices each of them has made may make war between them inevitable. Between Valyn and Adare is their brother Kaden, rightful heir to the Unhewn Throne, who has infiltrated the Annurian capital with the help of two strange companions. The knowledge they possess of the secret history that shapes these events could save Annur or destroy it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
The second installment of this series was so good & so very violent. I love the audiobook narrator, and am looking forward to seeing where all the loose ends move in book 3!

By the time Sioan reached the tower‘s top, stepping from the last stair into the bitter chill of the night, the air in her lungs burned with a fury to match the fire raging in the streets below.

I enjoyed that the plot kept giving in terms of reveals! The siblings kept learning about alliances & choices that their father had made to which few were aware. It kept the story spinning while trying to see how far their father‘s influence truly stretched, even after his death. Things got pretty heated towards the end & I was shocked on more than one occasion with the twists & turns! Full review at www.thegenreminx.com #TheGenreMinxBookReviews

This series was good, well done but not a barn burner. I did love sitting on the porch reading it immensely, though.

I just started imagining Kit Harrington as Valyn with a tan and it's working so well for me on so many levels 😁

The 1st book in this series, "The Emperor's Blades" was a little "paint-by-the-numbers" but was mostly quite satisfying. Here's hoping this 2nd book will resolve a major lack of character development for 1 main character and continue to be a fun read.
