Starting this today, reading it based 100% on the cover.

I don't read (or speak) Japanese, but I couldn't resist these. In Japan they released a full-sized paperback and also these two small editions that split the book into two volumes. Now to find a way to display them.

I've been super inspired by my friend Peter Tieryas' book, United States of Japan so I made these cards for him - just for kicks.

A solid punch to the emotional gut, mostly because it asks some excellent questions that are very relevant to our world today. The characters are excellent, the world-building is topnotch, and the writing is lucid and a joy to read. It is dark, yes, and you will come out of it thinking dark thoughts, but that's a good thing. There is plenty of darkness and violence in this book, but there's also a bit of room to chuckle (albeit with an awareness of the dark place that chuckling comes from).

Crazy & amazing alternative history where the Axis won: Japan takes the West, Nazis the East. The world is rich & fascinating, as are the characters. There's some jumping between the past & present that deepens plot & character. Wish the ending were more conclusive. I couldn't put it down.

I was really excited for this one but then couldn't get into it. I kept picking up my other books instead. Might have just been in the wrong mood for it, so calling it quits for now.
