pickSet in the end days of the British Raj. I enjoyed it even with its epic sentences. 😁 Lots of different characters - story is progressed by changing narrators and p.o.v's, letters, diaries etc - which I quite like. Bring on book two of the quartet...

Dear @Litsy : I am about to board my flight to the gorgeous town of San Miguel de Allende in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. I like to read novels of a completely different time and place when I travel-makes for amazing dreams. This is the 4-volume novel of the British in colonial times India and their subsequent exit. volume 1 is The Jewel in the Crown which was also a PBS miniseries in the 1980s.
