Now the rivers of England are growing sick: monstrous creatures are awakening and a fierce torrent of blame falls upon Kelda’s family. When betrayal comes, the sisters escape on a desperate journey upstream. Joining forces with a mysterious boy, Kelda discovers the darkest depths of her kind’s secret history. So the plan was to read the women‘s prize for NF longlist. Which of course meant the International Booker looked super-interesting. And as I can‘t do everything, the only possible solution is to read the Carnegies. Yay!

I might just admit that children‘s literature is where it‘s at (and where I‘m at) this year, so there we are. (I‘ve abandoned The Eagle & the Hart for Dirty Bertie. Enough Said.)

This book, however, is gorgeous inside and out.

jenniferw88 I'm struggling with The Eagle and the Hart too! 4d
rockpools @jenniferw88 Really?! That makes me feel much better! Pretty sure you can handle more ‘serious‘ history than I can. It was a lot!! 4d
jenniferw88 @rockpools, yes, & I'm glad to reassure you! It's a period I know little about. & you can blame my Dad for the 'serious' history - he's an ex-history teacher & is now a National Trust guide - we've been members since my birth so have visited a LOT of NT places over the years. (I didn't go abroad on holiday to around age 9/10). 4d
rockpools @jenniferw88 That makes sense. I might just stick with historical fiction for my ‘Kings & Queens‘ history - I finally worked out that I knew John of Gaunt from Anya Seton‘s Katherine. Then I bailed!! 4d
